After 7 years of contemplating (basically being wishy washy) I finally made the move and added the V21 Hood Performance Treatment to my car!  My good friend Bill (bill440rt) always said he was willing to do it when I grew some balls.  Well today was the day that I grew some!

Made the hour drive over to Bills this AM, armed with my V21 template that was made for me almost 9 years ago by member LeesRT.   His car was an originally optioned V21 car that was unrestored.

Only used the template as a guide...we really couldnt use it as it sits.  Had to measure, remeasure & measure again to get the angles right on both sides.  Bill made his own template of sorts for the curves & layed out the fine line tape by hand...

After about 2-3 hours of taping & re taping he finally got the outline where we both felt it was correct...
Did a little extra wet sanding where the old 440 decals were to remove any ghosting effect of the decals

After fully masking the car (very professionally I might add....learned some tips about masking & covering a car with plastic from the Mann as well), we went ahead & scuffed the clear coat with some Scotch brite pads to let the new paint have something to grab onto...

Oh look!  A rare glimpse of the Mann at work!  Applying the Final Klean and tack clothing the dust away

He then applied the first coat of SEM's Hot Rod Black.  http://www.semproducts.com/hot-rod-black-kit/

I chose this paint for its sheen and hopefully its ease of care.  The original Organasol can get very hard to keep clean & spot free.  Also the Organasol is lacquer based which can be harder to work with.

Bill then "dry sprayed" 2-3 more coats to give it some "texture"   This pic shows it still wet.  When it finally dried the texture lessened and dried with some texture. (Still got to get a dry close up)

After letting it dry for 3-4 hours, the masking came off & revealed a brand new car for me!

I think it came out great & really changed the look of the car.  Definitely something "different" of which I really enjoy...setting it apart form the rest.

Just gotta put the trim & wipers back on...hopefully wont scratch anything!

Heres the Mann himself saying "Sheesh I'm glad thats over!!"

That looks great.  Was this a option for 69's

Yes sir!  Mid year option.  The '69 version of the V21 was unique in the way it covered the entire cowl area and curved to the windshield where the "70 version was just 2 separate straight back to the windshield stripes

This is the '69 bulletin....

congratulations, and welcome to the v21 club, at least the club of those who put it on regardless of whether it was coded for it or not.  Mine was built before the option was available, but it needed it, I think the car looks a lot better with the v21 stripe kit on it.

Great pics & write-up, Chris!

This was the second V21 project for us. I always get the jitters when working on others' cars, but this was something Chris had wanted for years but was always on the fence about. He bravely made a good call, the V21 REALLY sets his car off! It was an honor to help out a friend.
The paint laid out a little more than what is pictured, it took on a slight textured surface very similar to Organisol. The Hot Rod Black from SEM is nice stuff to work with!

Chris, your car is REALLY going to get some attention now!  :drool5:
