'J' coded '74 Charger?

I had posted a thread on the Engine forum about finding a 360 motor out of a '74 Charger.
Picked up the motor last night.  He had it fully complete with correct 360 air cleaner, original thermoquad carb, pully's clutch fan... everything.

Anyhow, I took a photo of the door tag to look over the serial number later to see how close it was in relation to the Lynch road car I have to put it in.

Naturally i chopped off the WH in the VIN but it reads:
23J4A185533

He told me it was an early production that his buddy ordered.  The motor has a 360 stamp on it as well.

Just thought it was a little strange.

Probably as they are not common.
White books shows 165 WH23J4 cars shipped for US sale.

The door sticker shows March of '74. That would not be considered an 'early' car.

Yeah.   There is that too

So the 'J' represented what difference exactly?  As opposed to the 'L'...
