Fast ‘n Loud Firebird Prototype "Barn Find" Pair was actually a load of BS!

Its a good thing they didn't pick a pair of Mopars to hype as "prototypes" for TV ...because we'd be ALL OVER it.  :icon_bs:

"the first two Pontiac Firebird prototypes—Firebirds No. 1 and No. 2. Hand built by the Pontiac design team from two Camaros, they debuted five months after the Camaro was released"

Somehow these Gas Monkey Bafoons got the Firebirds and apparently made up the story to go with them.  Read more here...

Already a post on this.  Your 2 weeks too late.  :nana:

Sorry, I didn't see it.

http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,109883.0.html

This new post is about the fact these cars are not as they claim to be (prototypes), a story made-up by the producers because they were just regular production Firebirds.

Again, true power lies not in the Truth, but the ability to spread misinformation (LIES) and get the rest of the world to go along.

Only truth seeking, cut the bullsh*t car guys would ever call em on this. Funny, there sure are alot of muscle car wannabes out there that only care about how much money they are worth rather than the truth behind a gross misrepresentation.

Just like Street Outlaws. Heard it was cancelled. Gee, wonder why?

But they call them reality shows.  :rotz:

Yup, "reality" is a secondary concern next to the shows ratings and profit. It also shows the arrogance of the producers to think a bullsh*t story like this wouldn't get discovered after airing to a million viewers on TV.  :shruggy:

The producers might actually be "bigger hacks" than the Gas Monkey's themselves!  :D

Ghoste

The film and tv world is possibly the most out of touch segment of society.  And yet very sadly the most influential.

Why would they CARE if the truth comes out a few weeks later?  They already got their millions of viewers.

How many viewers will remember the names of the producers and check for them next time before watching another show of this type?

They can probably keep doing stuff like this at least several more times before credibility starts becoming any real problem.  If the old car hobby as a whole gets wise then the producers can just change around the name of the show & actors, and re-launch it.  Or they could shift to some other hobby besides musclecars and do the same sort of thing.

NHCharger

I watch the show just for the entertainment factor.
They are kind of a barn find since they were stored in a crappy garage.
I still would consider them rare since you're talking about owning the first two cars of the first year of production, althou not 325k rare.
Of course the show is going to embellish/distort the real story. They're competing against other tv shows like "The Voice"  :puke: :puke: for ratings.

Remember the episode where Richard and Dennis paid 400k for a wrecked F40 Ferrari? Sources close to the show claimed they paid under 100k.

It's just another Reality TV show that isn't very real, just entertaining. Unfortunately some people do believe everything they see on tv or read on the internet.

I put something on twitter about this the other day and Rawlings himself actually tweeted this link back at me. Not saying it's the truth, but this is Gas Monkey's side of the story.  :shruggy:

I think they are the real deal from everything I have seen (do I really care either way NO)
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

It doesn't change my opinion of reality shows in general or their show specifically.  If the cars are the real deal, thats a great find.

Based on some of the responses, the producers know what sells to car ignorant America...

"Keep on havin fun and MAKING BANK".
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

TUFCAT

First of all, the cars are not "prototypes" as often said on the show. They were produced on the assembly line, possibly as "pilot cars", hence the VIN.  Protoypes don't get a standardized manufacturer's VIN number assigned to them.

It's a joke to see them work on any car with collector value... and how do a bunch of Ass Monkey's get a hold of these cars first?  Whatever patina and documentation these cars have will be completely ignored, stripped away or painted over in the process of a so-called "restoration". These guys are car flippers who have no concern for correctness" or matching GM's build processes.  :eek2:

If the Firebirds are rare early production show cars from back in the day, they deserve a proper factory spec restoration by Scott Tiemann of Supercar Specialties, or someone with known creditionals for restoring Pontiac's.  Not these hacks.  :hack: :paintingpink:

The butthurt is strong around here for "Flippers"  :icon_smile_big:  The cars looked nice, If the seller is happy and the buyer is happy WHO CARES!???

You're right given the current climate around here, calling the Gas Monkey's "Flippers" was probably the wrong word choice.

But its a lot shorter than.... "people who look for opportunities to apply skillful promotion and false pretenses to enhance a vehicle's value to equal the ultra rare, bona fide, and authenticated holy grail examples and further capitalize on their initial investment".  :D

I cannot watch it either. Spare me the drama, its instant turn off. Show me technique. Process. Passion. Show me how to make shit! Make it better, faster, cooler. Show me tacking steel rod to the top of fins and leading tips. Show me how to french side exhaust or alter wheelbases. Keep your (low ball) offer of 50% and the classless skull rings. Made all the worse because of a sensationalistic broadcast to the world.  This isn't someone being a capitalist trying to buy cheap and sell high.  They dramatize and boast that they paid X and made Y and now everyone who sees the show thinks it so.  Did they?  Who knows, who cares, it has to be true its on tv.

The only "reality" auto related TV show I enjoy watching anymore these days is Overhaulin'.
It's not about flippers, they highlight actual car work and you can learn something in the process, and any drama is done tastefully all in fun with some good clean humor.

Watching the 2nd episode it seems that they avoided the term prototype and stuck with car #1 & 2.  I have to admit that I wasn't counting the words they used though as I was busy looking at RAM trucks.  :icon_smile_big:

Interesting, I can still sit through Overhaulin and enjoy the show but I really miss Courtney Hansen. She is the only one that even had a clue about cars. I stand corrected, sometimes they have the girls from All Girls Garage as part of the builds and I can totally deal with that. But the pretty face girl should be replaced with someone that knows which end of a wrench is the working end.  :P It hurts to watch..

Bubba ought to redo the interior on LEE1.  Maybe paint the car green while he's at it.

Just like those who claim at age 55, to have "built" 400 cars...

Wow, I'll need to really get cracking if I want touch a number like that.  Not many years and hundreds of cars off the pace.

We got this guy here that likes to tout this. His number isn't far off either.
I've corrected him numerous times, only to hear him touting this stupid sh*t at cruise nights all over again.
people are so gullible, or they simply do not care to call bullsh*t anymore. Too many pansy ass people.

If you allow it to continue, sooner or later misinformation (READ LIES) will all but become the 'truth'.
Somebody has to be the "bubble buster". Just cause you mighta owned 300 cars and waxed half of em and the rest you installed four bbl carbs on, does NOT mean you 'built' 300 freaking cars.

I didn't as I rarely watch them.  I did watch a few episodes when I first became aware of it but it didn't take long to figure out it was just another scripted reality drama.  Now I need to be really bored to leave it on.
I don't think I've seen 3X black Boss 9.

Lies. No way in hell one could build 400 cars when it usually takes at least 2-5 years to build one wreck.
