Am I the only one who has a hard time breaking the seal on the vault and digging out those treasured NOS parts that have been saved for years?  I generally end up using them but I seem to always have a hard time after taking so long to find some or having stored them for so long.  Hoarder mentality?

I hear you! Been collecting/restoring Pinball machines for years but only recently I have finally started using the NOS parts. At one point I just couldn't use them and started selling them off. Brought in  :Twocents: though.   Broke the dam a short while ago and it feels good.  I think part of the reason I find it easier now might be because the quantity and quality of reproduction parts is so high I don't feel like I am putting one bright spot on a turd.  :lol:

Some I keep, some I use. I think the only NOS part I used when building my '69 was a throttle cable clip, couldn't find a used one.  :rofl:

I remember looking for years for a correct fan clutch. Found one stashed in a dealer's inventory, must have been on the shelf for decades and the box was old & brittle. I almost hesitated before putting it on the car.  :lol:

If it were me I would save the new old stock stash  of parts and find a good used part to run on a car.

Only time I cringe with NOS parts, and using em is when I think how much some dumbass would pay me for it.

Most times, NOS only means take offs at a dealer for blemish reasons. Very few parts were just "over stock".

This is especially true with NOS electrical parts. I've seen people pay out the ass for it, get it home and a $10.00 Chinese replacement worked and NOS didn't.

I'm ok with it, they're parts right? Gotta use em before you peg out , even Mopar John bolts nos parts on, I guess his is part thrill of the chase and the gratification of having a documented correct nos part on his show quality cars, fair enough   :2thumbs:

  Funny thing is I have a friend who worked at every dealership in the county 25 years ago. He got paid while cleaning out all the inventory of anything vintage Mopar muscle, A, B and E body. He restored about 8 cars to perfection and cashed out at the market peak and invested in property that he rents.
  All that NOS and hard work has been paying dividends for many years now.  :lol: He's still got piles of stuff left he's just sitting on!

  Mike and his dad Don are two of the nicest guys I've ever met/worked with. Mike is so busy running his body shop and keeping all his rental property perfect his dilemma is that the NOS inventory would take time he has not got to go through properly. We all know when your darn good at what you do your ALWAYS busy!  :2thumbs:
  I begged him 3 years ago to just grab a bunch of stuff, throw it in a box and let me help sort/ID but he is just too darn busy!  :shruggy:

Funny, I would have thought using the Chinese junk would hurt more than using parts that were actually made to be used on our cars
