Need suggestions on why my Charger is not starting...

Well, I just installed a Proform 750 carb, Firecore wires, NGK plugs, FBO ecu, coil. Huge performace improvement with no tuning. But I do have an issue when I drive the car for a while, park for lets say 30 minutes to an hour.  The car will not start on either a flat, incline or decline surface,  It takes me a least one to two minutes of cranking the engine with and sometimes without hitting the gas pedal to get it to run. On the flip side of my issue, If I drive the car, stop for a few minutes it starts right back up. It seems to give an issue when the car sits for a while... Any suggestions? Thank You.  :shruggy:

Sounds like "heat soak" to me. Is the heat crossover blocked? My six pack would hesitate restart, installing a valley pan with the heat ports blocked (I did drill a 1/8 hole in each side to allow some heat.) solved that issue.
The problem is increased with ethanol added to modern fuel even more. Has the carb an insulating gasket under it? Fuel needs to stay cool.

Yeah, I was kinda thinking that, but wasn't sure. I just have a regular thin gasket under the carb. I ran a spacer, but the air cleaner hit the hood. Then I would have to go with a drop base air cleaner. I've read a few threads concerning the clearance when using the stock air cleaner... That may be the way to go...

Hi John, several years back i posted on the carb boiling stuff :

http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,52284.0.html

Make sure your floats are set properly ; with the PF carbs you should see fuel halfway up the site glass on the bowls. Next time it won't start just look down the throat of the carb and move the throttle. If no fuel comes out of the squirters then you'll know the bowls are empty.  :yesnod: Your fuel level should be clearly visible after shutdown so check the site glass as well as doing the squirter test.  :scope:

Assuming you have fuel then the only other thing it can be is ignition. Check for spark if it appears fuel delivery is not the issue.

tried 1/4 spacer,1" alloy and 1" plastic. All vaporized gas from carb.
Warm it would start like no problem if i started it about 30-40min after shutting down.More than 40min and really looooong starting..
Need to block passages to get rid of this symptom.

And read Ron's link,it has really good info.

Wow, Thanks guys for all the incredibly helpful advice! I will defiantly try the new valley pan with the block off first.

This problem is even more so an issue with aluminum intakes, the heat transfer is much faster.

69ChargerBoy,
I've got the same issues. Using a #1215 valley pan (sealed risers)w/ gaskets between heads and manifold, 1/2" phenolic spacer and fuel line insulated. Sometimes she starts within 3 seconds of cranking, and other times she doesn't. Very frustrating.  :brickwall:

I believe my issues still surround the rich idle conditions described in my ProForm Tuning thread. Plugs continuously foul, inhibiting spark.
My other habit is pumping the accelerator pedal before cranking - bad idea with the new double-pumper. The old Carter AVS liked that.

I did have similar issues with heat soak with my eddy card until I put a phenolic spacer under it. But I don't want to go back to that eddy. The performance of the Proform is wonderful. I have the valley pan coming, so I'll post my results after I install it.
