Ok so I am parting out a 67 Coronet I rotated the back tire 1 full turn and the pinion goes around 1-3/4 turn Any idea what gear ratio this is? I was expecting it to have 2:76's Did they make a higher gear than that?

2.76, 2.94, 3.23, 3.31, 3.55 were available.....yer fender tag says it came with a 3.23 open diff

Ok thanks what part of the fender tag decodes that Also can u tell me what engine and carb it would have origionally came with. The guy I bought it from said it used to have a 4 barrel on it but he put the 2 barrel on it to save gas.

just wondering if it is a good 383 or a not so good one. I think it should have closed chamber heads

A383Wing

yea...it will have probably 516 heads...closed chamber, but small exhaust valve....still a decent engine....got the same in my Chargers

the code on tag says it came with a 4bbl carb...it's the "62" in the lower row....the trans would be auto...which is the "5" next to it....the rear end ratio is the "4" under the "AX" code...3.23 ratio

With an open differential you need to turn the tire TWO complete revolutions while counting the pinion revolutions. In your case 1 3/4 equals 3 1/2 so it's likely a 3.55.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks John I did read another post that you replied to and figured that out. I will double check it tomorrow because my Fender tag says they are 3:23's but I hope they do turn out to be 3:55's
