Howdy Folks, I took a week off work and headed down to Whangamata for the annual Beach Hop show the other week. Its about a 2 hour drive down the coast and the normally quiet town of 4000 turns into car and rock n roll central with 30,000 people and cars turning up for a week automotive fun.

The entries to the main cruises and park ups are capped around 1300 but thousands more people just turn up in their cool cars and hang out. Everywhere you cruise around people are chilled out and just enjoying the happy vibe, didnt see any trouble all week, the cops are around but as long as you dont do any dumb stuff or big skids or walk around with booze, then its all good.

It was a really neat experience going in the main parade heading out to Onemana, all the way out there, ( about 10 miles from town ) people had got up early and staked out the vantage points with chairs, shade shelters and chilly bins with refreshing cold drinks and they all would cheer or wave when you came past, apparently the line went on for 2 hours!!

Caught up with heaps of mates from around the country, cruised the old car a lot and at nights when we went back to the pad, me and my buddy drank beer and played guitars, a most excellent holiday  :2thumbs:

Enough talky, now some pics...

Hey Dan 68X426, I know you'll like this Power Wagon  :2thumbs: The guy drives it everywhere.
Plenty of cars up from the South Island, some from Aussie and a few come over from the States.
Excellent week!

I did a short clip of the cruise up the main drag, cars parked up in the middle and the other cruise is coming back up the street in the other direction at the same time.

Very nice indeed Bob! Lots of nice custom work too. My favorite shot is the 2 Chargers on the grass with
that gorgeous bay as a back drop.

The gal in the pink top drivers side in the YouTube vid was quite the healthy bird no?  :D

As always, good on ya Bob.

Thanks Guys, I had a blast! The weather was fantastic and just thousands of Petrolheads all enjoying the same thing. If any of you Gearheads were planning a trip down here, then Beach Hop is a must see!

Tom , there were 3 Chargers on the grass and I saw another on on the hill on the way in, getting pretty common eh , I bet you paused the vid clip eh

74dc, the Daytona belongs to a mate of mine, neat car, is 4 speed R4, have driven it too, real nice, looks tough with the Aero wheels on it too.

There is an official fb page with heaps of pics on, there are some guys doing serious custom work , look out for the pale yellow COE transporter, super cool truck

Its Top Banana, just my cellphone pics let it down a bit.

Yeah, cool fun Dan, the spoiler for the truck is its sbc powered, but cool nonetheless.
After finding Hemi Place while I was down there, this week I've found Daytona Road, man, that sign will take some beating if the tinsnips ever get near it ( looks over shoulder for traffic )
