Stupid 2013 Camaro

So I tried to race a 2013 Camaro driving by a couple 17 year olds on the old deserted road at my father's ranch. I was sure I couldn't beat them but figured I'd give them a run for the money. Boy was I wrong. Dad dropped his hands and the Camaro was gone. Not from lack of power on my part. They had traction control. All I got was cancer from two burning tires.  :slap:

I know I know I shouldn't be racing. Couldn't help myself! Wasn't illegal, it was all on private property.  :nana:

Were you in the Dart? I doubt you could hang with even a V6 Camaro without a lot more power.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I knew I could never win but I didn't expect to sit there coughing up tire smoke . The little Dart has some pep to it.

Referring to tire smoke as "cancer" is really strange. Cancer kills people and really isn't an appropriate way to describe tire smoke.
Ever have a loved one die due to any form of Cancer? If not, you are a lucky one.

Traction control? You have that as well. A good driver knows how to modulate the loud pedal to straddle the thin line between hooking up and going up....in SMOKE!   :2thumbs:

The Camaro has 47 or more years of development on its side. Even the V6 cars are over 300 NET HP and the 273/318 of the late 60s topped out at 180-230 GROSS HP. The new cars have computer selected gear ratios to optimize economy as well as power. We had a 3 speed 904 or 727.

I'm impressed when I hear that one of our classics can beat a new car like a Camaro, Mustwang or a LX or LC car.

Cooter

Only known to cause cancer in California in lab rats though.... :D

As for the ass whoopins, silly rabbit, don't you know drag racing is for drag cars.

Don't feel too badly 'OP.  When I'm driving my '98 Mustang GT I develop feelings of inadequacy, knowing that Nissan Maximas and other decidedly "non-sporty" cars can blow my doors off.   However, I'd rather drive a 14 second Mustang than a 13 second Maxima.  In your case, I'd rather drive a 15 second classic Mopar than a newer Camaro...

No Traction No Reaction.

Silly Rabbit, tire smoke is for kid! Unless you are just having fun that is!  :D

Bring engine up against the converter, let go on the break pedal and floor it after you are rolling.  ;)

If you're gonna get whupped then at least it was by something that isn't too embarrassing.  An American RWD muscle car.

Just wait till the electric cars eventually start kicking our asses.  Then we will REALLY be embarrassed.

Tire smoke contains carcinogens, so technically the OP isn't wrong.  :Twocents:

Many of us have lost people to cancer.  Unfortunately as our environment worsens, many more will.

As a cancer survivor, I find it disheartening when folks bitch about the government passing rules to clean up the
environment.      :Twocents:

Never did I once 'bitch about the government passing rules to clean up the environment'.  I merely stated a fact regarding burning tires, and another fact that cancer cases are on the rise, sir.

My hat's off to you for beating it.  Many in my family have not been so lucky...

Sorry, if you thought I meant YOU.    I didn't...   (I have lost family & friends to cancer, too. IT SUCKS.)

I stated 'folks'...

Like the guys at MoPar Collector's Guide, for example...  They waste space every month trying to tell me what to think.

Wonder if they wear aluminum foil helmets?   :nana:

Who do you think was controlling/driving the Camaro, I bet it wasn't the 17 year olds, more like the computer. I would think it takes more skill to really drive a non computer controlled car. :stirthepot:

Great... a closet "greenie" outs himself.

The environment is tougher than anything man made.

I fail to see where I'm a "Greenie" in any of that statement?  Since you were the one who originally got butt-hurt over OP comparing a burnout to cancer, I'll back up my original post.

Tire smoke cointains carcinogens.

Recently, the U.S. EPA published the following study: U.S. EPA (October 1997) "Air Emissions from Scrap Tire Combustion." The study shows that emissions from the burning of tires are a serious threat to human health. Specifically, emissions from burning tires are highly mutagenic (more mutagenic than emissions from the burning of all other bulk materials that researchers have tested). Emissions from burning tires contains significant amounts of the following known human carcinogens: benzene, 1,3-butadiene, and benz[a]pyrene."

^Quick google search would bring you here: https://www.elaw.org/node/2764  (Doing a burnout releases the same chemicals, only on a smaller scale)

"Many of us have lost people to cancer.  Unfortunately as our environment worsens, many more will."

I'll even use an American publication for this one from mainstream media:
http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/04/health/who-world-cancer-report/

Unfortunately, we live in a world where everyday we take in toxins, one way or another.  I fail to see how pointing out those simple facts, makes me a "Greenie".

It's unfortunate we don't see eye to eye on the subject, but hey, such is life...  All the best  :2thumbs:

Thread about a fun little drag race turns into a debate on the environment....

Remember people, it's not speeding in a car that kills you... it's when that car tries to become instantly stationary that kills you  :yesnod:

Drache, I'm sorry man...

What did that drag race teach you though?  Time for more power mods ;) :icon_smile_big:  :yesnod:  This way you can show the Camaro who he was messing with for round 2.

Hey don't worry on my part, the thread was getting interesting. It's nice not being the one in the argument for once  :nana:

What it taught me is the value to traction control bars or never race from a dead stop.  :scratchchin:

A dude took me for a ride in a 2013 ZL1 Nickey Camaro last week.  800hp at the rear wheels, 6 speed.

I've been in some pretty fast cars in my 45 years, but that thing was downright scary.  Thankfully, the guy was a damn good driver.

Wow did this thread turn into an argument over PC correctness. Lost my Dad, Mom, and Sister to cancer yet find nothing offensive about the OP's post, kinda funny actually.

I too find this turn of the topic to be odd.  And political correctness is only part of the turn.

When the general public starts using the words toxins and cancer it tends to be a block to further conversation.

A toxin includes almost every chemical compound. And cancer is something we all have from birth to death. :shruggy:

BTW tire smoke is all natural because it comes from natural earth compounds such as oil and rubber. :slap:
