I was just wondering with all you guys that like to keep track of the numbers

Of the original 504 (if that is the right number) that were built

How many are known to be left and how many are known to be gone (and never come back)

Which also leads to how many might be left to still find ???

Does anybody have these numbers ?

Great questions... I would like to know as well. I'm sure some of the guru's here know these questions already. They're pretty awesome when it comes to the history of these cars and who owns which ones etc.

We have about 375 cars recorded in the Daytona Superbird Club database.    Most of those cars are still around.    Pretty high survival rate for the muscle car era.    So there are another 125 cars give or take yet to be accounted for.  Every so often, a new one pops up.

I have logged almost the exact same number as Doug mentioned the DSAC has.  As he stated, most all of those are still around.  We've all seen pictures of wrecked or junkyard Daytonas, but some of those could have later been saved.  MoparJohn's two Daytonas were both in a Kansas City scrapyard, for instance.  Most of the others were just photos of a car, without a correlating VIN.

A few known-VIN cars we know are likely gone forever (or we'd all be giving them the stinkeye if they ever did show up):

> Big Willie's King & Queen Daytonas - 356523 & 356525 respectively

> Texas Toast Daytona - 402977

> Ted Stephens' stripped junkyard shell - 405184

Those are just the ones that come to mind, and maybe some other folks remember or can identify more?  There were certainly other cars crushed/scrapped through the years, but we may never know their VINs.

With the rarity of Daytonas, now-a-days they are often saved when another model would have been sold off for parts long ago.  Two or three project Daytonas owned by DC.com members immediately come to mind.  FWIW, someone could still "restore" the Ted Stephens car, although they'd have to stretch even the most liberal definition of "rebody" in order to do so.

 :iagree:

Depends on the pedigree of the car, too.
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?
