Searching Craigslist for cars and came across this '67 Coronet 500. Yes the front seats are ugly

QuoteI am selling my 1967 Dodge Coronet 500 (2 Door) CUSTOM. I inherited this car in 2012. I really don't know in detail certain aspects of this car. I do know it has a 440 ci 4 barrel engine, bored 30 over. Custom aluminum radiator, Doug custom Headers, Demon 750 carburetor, B&M slap shifter, racing seats, roll cage (no back seat), Cragar racing wheels, Mickey Thompson Widest Hi-Performance Street Legal Back Tires. This car was built for drag racing. I changed the gears so it can be street drive able. Not matching numbers. It has a 1966 Dodge Charger Parts in it. Vin number specifies that this vehicle is a 1966 Dodge Charger. TITLE IN HAND! Own a Classic MOPAR! Located in the Henderson/Las Vegas Area. $10,000 or BEST OFFER!

I had a title on a 1970 cornet that both vins read out for a coronet but the dmv marked it as a charger
Current Mopars: 2014 Ram 2500 Cummins, 1970 Dodge D100

Yes but that ad makes it sound like the VIN on the car is for a '66 Charger?

I asked the seller if the VIN tag was from a '66 Charger and this is the response:

QuoteThe vin says it's a 1966 Dodge Charger but the title says it's a 1966 Dodge Coronet. Only thing the car has, is a small transmission leak which means you need to replace the gasket. I'm at work right now, so u can give you the Vin # later.

My reply:

So let me see if I understand this correctly. The metal VIN tag is for a '66 Charger, the title states it's a '66 Coronet, but the car itself is a '67 Coronet 500?

The vin on the TITLE MUST match the VIN PLATE on the car...and actually "BE" the car!  :Twocents: :Twocents:

The seller confirmed it. The VIN plate is for the Charger and the title is for the wrong year.  :brickwall:

Can of worms if you buy it.  Here, in Minnesota, you would have to bond the title, if you're lucky.  You probably couldn't transfer the title if it is for another car.  Nice looking parts car.

Lord Warlock

big question is whether its legal to drive on the street or not, if vin and title don't match, not sure if it could be tagged.  at least not here.  Looks like the rear wheels are pretty close together like it was designed for much larger slicks in the back.  As a drag car it probably wouldn't matter, but as a street car who knows for sure.
69 RT/SE Y3 cream yellow w/tan vinyl top and black r/t stripe. non matching 440/375, 3:23, Column shift auto w/buddy seat, tan interior, am/fm w/fr to back fade, Now wears 17" magnum 500 rims and Nitto tires. Fresh repaint, new interior, new wheels and tires.

Define Legal!  :D Really, how many current law-enforcement folks theses days would know a 66 Charger from a 67 Coronet?  :scratchchin: Heck, 10 years ago I had a parking ticket and got out of it because they called my 70 Cuda a Camaro :scratchchin:  Meter had ran out by 4 minutes so I did not feel bad.  :D

When I got my 68 Road Runner title from Dad it said it was a Plymouth Belvedere? Had to fight with the Lady at the DMV to get it changed to Road Runner. Moved to IL 15 years, I had another fight, IL just left the Type blank.  :shruggy:

Far as the year? Maybe the guy was told it was a 67, and it is really a 66?  :shruggy:

I'm worried about trying to bring it back into Canada. ICBC is a little anal with things like that.

Is anyone overlooking the obvious? Maybe the guy before the seller had 2 cars, a '67 Coronet & a '66 Charger. Now the guy who inherited this one has the wrong title.   :shruggy:  Did the seller say that the VIN on the title is the same number as the VIN on the car?

Nothing about the VIN but is that an altered wheel base car??   Looks off.  So a drag car or a match race car sometime in the past??

Cooter

My Charger although VIN matches, is titled as a "2dr hatchback"???

I once purchased a '70 Challenger with a title that stated it still had a lean holder (the bank).  It was a real pain to clear up the issue with the title and final get clean paperwork.  I would never buy a car that has a questionable title...

In the case of this Coronet: other than using it has a race car only or as a parts car I would pass....to many questions regarding the paperwork and you could be left holding the bag if there is something in the cars past that a previous owner is trying to cover up....
1970 Daytona Charger SE "clone" (440/Auto)
1967 Charger (360,6-pak/Auto)
2008 Challenger SRT8 BLK (6.1/Auto) 6050 of 6400

Baldwinvette77

for 1 year my black 70 cutlass was titled as a red 70 442, the DMV's mistake

Just stick a charger badge somewhere on it, 99.99% of the population would never know the difference  ::)

Forget about the title/vin issues....that's probably one of the ugliest 1967 Coronet's I've seen in a while.  :eek2:

c00nhunterjoe

He clearly stated that the vin plate says its a 66 dodge charger. To me, something is very wrong and illegal.i do actually like the car though

afew years ago my buddy was in a diesel class at a technical college and he bought one of them mid 80's vw rabbit diesels he rebuilt the engine and made it just reliable enough to commute with (a few hundred miles a week on average) then the body started to fall apart around itself so he found some other vw in a salvage yard that wasn't a rabbit but it was very similar, so he drug it home and put his diesel in it and used the rabbits title to tag it, just put a rabbit emblem off of his other car on the fender and off he went! Drove that up until a year after he got out of college and then it started to fall apart too...found yet ANOTHER VW with out a title so that SAME engine and SAME Rabbit emblem were swapped to the new car and off he went it again...I think a year ago maybe he finally got tired of dealing with it and parked it out at his farm. He still starts it every so often but I think the tranny finally shot shit. Oh the ways of a poor college student! lol Funny thing was you all are right, he was pulled over multiple times for various things and they never once questioned anything!
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....
