Hi guys, I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times but I couldn't find the thread. Does anyone know if there is a firewall template for installing factory a/c? I have 95% of the factory air parts and my car is non a/c and fully torn down  so I have all the space for everything to go in. I want make it look factory air and want to cut the firewall like a factory air car. Thanks Jon.

I may be wrong, but I think the firewalls are different. Might want to check AMD website, might shed some light. Hopefully someone who knows can pop up and give you the right answer.

I don't know if you can see anything in these pictures but this was a factory air car.

I checked amd website and compared the two firewalls and just the cutouts look different.  If they made a template I'm pretty sure I could make the correct cutouts with out having to weld in a new/used firewall section.

The firewalls are the same size/shape, just cut differently for A/C and non A/C.
When I converted my 68 from A/C to non A/C I had to drill new holes for the mounting bolts that are attached to the heater box. I discovered that there were tiny dimples in the firewall where the bolt holes needed to be drilled.
It might be easier to buy a used A/C firewall, cut out a section of your firewall and weld the new one in.

I converted an E body once I stripped the donor car and cut the firewall out to use as a template. It was easy to cut the new holes in the firewall. I have all the same stuff to do an A body I have.

I used the whole firewall , wished I had just welded up unused holes and used the ac firewall as a template, but didn't want to get anything wrong , and I had an impacted area that I wanted to fix , either way will work

Somewhere in this mess I have an A/C firewall that I intended on using on my 68 but I may end up just cutting my original. Depends on how ambitious I am when I get to that point.

Thanks for all the help, I think ill try to find a used firewall to use as a template, my fire wall is in great condition. I think it might just be easier to cut the holes out then weld a section. Hopefully I can find one either free or really cheap, especially if I'm just going to cut the holes so it wont matter if its rotted in places.

If it's not original any way...

I'd go all new.

I have most of the original parts collected for my car, too.

But...

I think I'll just go with the new stuff.

You can order a special bracket to hide the modern looking compressor down low so that your engine bay still looks mostly original. :Twocents:
