Original factory colour or a different factory colour ?

Ok right from the start I know my car and I can paint it whatever colour I want

So my question is if this is my car and I was to paint it a F6 Bright Green Metallic colour rather than Q5 Bright Turquoise how much would it change the value of the car when it comes time to sell it ??

Would the original colour choice make the car worth $1000 $2000 $3000 more ??

I know it is only paint and could be redone in the future (turquoise not green and not blue  )

So a really cool car that still has its original 383 magnum motor and will have to round up or restore a bunch of options that it came with
power steering,powerbrakes,air conditioning,tach,power windows,cruise control,white bucket seats, wood grain dash and console,white vinyl top

Will the right colour make it worth that much more or that much less

Try to put a $$ figure on it for todays market

I tend to have more fun rounding up parts for Chargers and gettting them going then keeping them and driving them forever
I might drive this one longer if it was green  (I already have a 70 R/T factory FJ5 that will be with me for awhile)

I would bet a Q5 original color car would sell quickly, whereas an F6 non-original car might hang around a while.

I'm not so sure about the $$$ value - I think this depends more on if you are going for an original restoration or a driver with some mods.  Restored 'correct' other than the color would seem to hurt the value, I'll guess $3k.

I'm not so hung up on the greens, a nicely restored green car can look great.  But a Q5 car restored as green just seems like a step backward.

Depends what you want to do with it to begin with. If you're planning on spending the money required to get it back to factory specs and do a really nice factory resto, then it would be shame not to have it Q5 even though you may never recoup the money put into it.

But, as soon as the car is modified, I don't think Q5 or F5 will make a difference in value since it's not a rare RT to begin with.

I agree with Homerr......Q5 is a pretty coveted color, especially when it is original to the car WITH a white top and interior. If your intention is to be able to sell quickly, I assume this car would fetch quite a premium over painting it green. It would be like seeing a charger in T7 bronze with X9 black on the tag..... That being said, if you intend on keeping and enjoying yourself, why the hell not do whatever you want?

I don't agree. Color of the car determines it's audience. So a color change from OEM is going to change your market, then the color you select for that change will also effect your market. Personally green drops it's value to me as a perspective buyer as it's not a top color choice to the point where I might even pass over the car. Apply the supply demand curve and less demand means lower price.

Turquois is a pretty color, especially with white.

I think what painting it green would detract from its' value, would be about the same as what it would add by being the original color.  What I am trying to say is it won't make much difference to the value what color you paint it.  Q5 with the white vinyl would be killer.

I LOVE turquoise/white/white - but F6/white/white is pretty awesome too! It's not an R/T and it needs a bunch of work. Do what you want. I doubt the resale value will be any more or less IF it's all done right. If there are other issues you might get beat down on the price because it's green. However, not everyone likes turquoise either so if you're really concerned about resales value paint it black or red.

Seriously though the original color will appeal to a certain kind of buyer that knows about originality & Mopars in general.  A color change to "Resale Red" might appeal to a broader spectrum of potential buyers that want a car for the "coolness factor" and not so much to the numbers crowd

OK...obviously you can;t make your own decisions so either flip a coin, or start a poll to see what color is desirable, or put the blinders and feedbucket on and restore it accordingly to the fender tag/build sheet, or grow a set, and do to it as you please

Well it seems to be coming out close to 50 50 on the green vs turquoise
I did not think the green would have done so well 
The funniest part to this whole thread was the picture that was chosen of the green Daytona to show the green colour
Truth be know that is why I bought the car in the first place was to build a clone
Six months ago I ordered a wing from Dane and just sent him the final $$ this week
I should have the wing in 2 weeks 

Still kind of undecided if this is a car that should be restored to factory because of its list of options or use it for a clone
Think it will come down to if it still has the original motor in it or not
I should have the car home and in my shop in the next couple of weeks

when i painted mine, i didnt think of resale or value. i thought of what appealed to me. mine is original purple. i searched for colors and found the one i chose. if i do sell, they can repaint it then.

If you change anything from the build sheet, then you are no better then those of us with general lees. 
The point is, its a love hate. IF you were ever going to sell your car, one of two things will happen:
1: a die hard mopar fan will show up and offer you less because its the wrong color or
2: a die hard mopar fan will show up and write you a check because he has always wanted a charger

My opinion should be clear- i own a general lee. Build the car for YOU and dont worry about anyone else.

I'm one of those blasphemous people that changed the color of a numbers '68 R/T, so I've wrestled with this decision, although mine was from a different perspective.  

1) I will never sell my car unless forced to.  Sounds like your gonna go through the "fun" of restoration then try to maximize $ when selling it. (nothing wrong with that)

2) Your car may or may not be a numbers car, and isn't an R/T, so it's collectiblity/desirability is limited by those facts.


So... the difference in car value between F6 and Q5 is nil....both colors have their fans.  

A well done car will sell higher to the right person than a weaker original car, and vice versa.  Happens all the time.

Both are desirable colors to the right person. 
If I had an original Q5 car there would be no question it would go back that color. But then again I really like Q5, so it would appeal to me.
I remember a local around here decades ago that had a Q5/white '68, I would drool over that car. What a combo.

Eh, you still have a couple years ahead of you with the build, maybe the blue will grow on you.... or maybe you'll build a General lee with power windows, who knows
