Kern Dog

I know that the 70s were a different time but cars decked out like this:

dumb.jpg

....Look dumb as shit by today's standards. The ridiculous leaf spring setup with the extra long shackles, air shocks and to top it off, traction bars are matched only by the cranked up front end with what looks like Go-Cart front tires. What a mess. This probably handles horribly and isn't any faster in a straight line but at least it looks stupid.

KD: You've clearly never spent much time in "Hillbilly Hell".  The world I grew up in was full of this sort of stuff (read Hillbilly Elegy sometime, if you're interested, JD Vance's autobiography). It seemed that more Chevys and Fords were abused like this but... a few Mopars also suffered this rather ignomus fate.

I remember that world fondly in many ways, but this sort-of stuff wasn't one of them.

Kern Dog

OH, at 59 years old, I have seen this before, many times.
As a kid, I thought a car with a jacked up rear end looked cool. As a kid I was an idiot. Now I am not as much of an idiot as I used to be.   :smilielol:

70 sublime

Now at 60 but as a younger person ( mid 20's) I always thought the jacked up look was kind of neat
I have never had one jacked up before but have never done it myself
Will have one like that for a while before I die
next project 70 Charger FJ5 green

true seem to see more first generation cameros  jacked up with a ridiculous rake must of been invented by the Chebby mob :o  ;)  :icon_smile_big:

prolly use to knock out the pinion bearings & u/joints  real quick & but no hear the rumbling or vibration with glass packs  :P  :-\  :scratchchin:

yeah looks stupid but that was the look  :coolgleamA:  you was the Man back then  , jacked up rear end  90 /10 or worn out front shocks  copying  the  drag racers better weight transfer, & first bend in the road  taken at anything over 40 your off the road facing the opposite way in a field or worse :P  ;)  :-\ as a kid use to think wow Cool radical  !  i even use to make the stock looking  muscle car monogram models & soup em up had parts racking of tonnes of custom bits from other  models fuel dragsters etc use the massive rear tires  , wheely bars  put the blown hemi in them etc & jack up the rear  :P  was not always the right scale but who cares when your a kid  ;D  ,  when i got older never did like that kind of look on real cars  :P  although slight rake & leafspring shackles kind of poking out  are kind of a must imo cause that what the chargers / roadrunners  had running  nascar etc back in the day  :yesnod:  ;)

Traction bars work, I had some cars that would wheel hop themselves nuts without them!

Kern Dog

Then you had shitty leaf springs.
Big surprise....a guy like you embraces traction bars, the thing no Mopar drag racer ever uses.
I've never had wheel hop in any Mopar because I don't drive a car with worn out shitty suspension.

:rotz:

Two things:

He didn't say whether those other cars were Mopars, and
Not every difference of opinion needs to be accompanied by a personal attack/insult.

Thanks for digging up and posting all of these photos, tan top.  I love going through them, even if a few do make me shake my head at what was once considered cool.

I must be doing something wrong. I still get some occasional wheel hop with MOPAR super stock springs and MOPAR pinion snubber on my Dana 60?  Neither are worn out or shitty?
