Beware of "TNT" and his 1969 R/T for sale

Yes this is my first post, but if it helps save your time and money looking for a Charger, it's served its purpose.  I began speaking with this seller months ago (Sep to be exact) and we began discussing the vehicle and the "options" of the deal clearly listed on his for sale ad on this forum.  In-fact, the ad is still running here.  After nearly 6-months of "choosing the option to put the original driveline back in", I bought a plane ticket from FL to RI to see the vehicle because it was "ready".  He does not have pictures posted on here, but sent them to me via email.  From 50' away the vehicle looks great, but once closer, it's readily apparent that it's been rode hard and put away wet.  Please msg me for specifics, but somewhere inbetween gas pouring out of the bottom of the gas tank and increasing the asking price $8K once he had me in-person, I knew it was a bad situation ( with respect to the gas leak, we're talking several gallons overflowing on the floor when the car was lifted - so much that we had to turn the heater off in the garage immediately).  Either the seller or his "mechanic" had just put a fuel sender on and didn't connect the hoses correctly.  The amature spray paint job on everything could fill a page itself.  Bottom line is this guy is either senile or unethical, but I suspect probably both.  I'm out the price of a plane ticket and some time away from the family, but very happy I never sent him a dime.  I found it ironic that he's an "Ethics" Lawyer to boot!

I know how ya feel. I once drove to St Louis to look at a Charger. Yes from the pics, it looked like a good starting point and was supposed to be drivable. It was a basketcase, I even had to tune on the carb just to get it to move out of its tracks. Needless to say I spent the night in St Louis then drove back home

No doubt about it, I did the right thing going to see this vehicle.  I'm bummed out but what do they say?  If it's too good to be true?  A fool and his money are quickly departed?  . 

Oh well, I'm stuck driving my 1967 fastback until I find the right Charger! 

One of my favorite things this guy said was "I didn't tell you I want more money?  Must have told someone else that.  I'm even having a hard time these days remembering what my clients say these days."

I was kind of beside myself at that point but just glad I didn't go up in flames in the first minute viewing the car!

Had you started a post, "can someone look at a car for me", some local members could have saved you alto of grief and $$$, Wakefield RI is a stones throw for me, and knowing what Tom has to offer in the way of his clapped out 69, and the $27K asking price, you can find a better deal....was the $8K on top of the $27K ?

I don't think his intent is to "bash", but merely make others aware of his wasted effort/time dealing with a buyer,  How many times do we see posts of members buying cars/parts based on the seller's supposedly "good faith", only to get burnt when it arrives at their front door? then the posters come out of the woodwork saying how they were misled also, or know the seller?, if the OP's 1st post makes the next potential buyer a little more questioning, rather than caught up in the thrill of buying a vintage Charger (how many of us bought cars over the years, only to see the true reality of it's condition when the thrill of the purchase wore off?) and saves them grief as well, then whats the harm?

Welcome to the board.  Personally I'd "beware" of any post over six months old with no pictures...so I don't think you've got anything to worry about !

so was the 8K on top to put all the stock stuff back in car and make it streetable again, or did he just jack the price up  8K when you got there

Very good point about posting on here first to see if someone was closer to inspect!  I'll admit that I responded so quickly to his sales ad, that I thought just maybe, maybe I was getting a deal!  So, you've seen this car also?

I do agree though that a very first post "bashing" another seller probably seems unfriendly, but let's face it, this ultimately was business. 

Yes, the 8K was ON TOP of the $27K.  I'm a cash buyer, but to hear the price went up $8K in-person was all I needed to know to get back on my plane.
