There have always been clueless drivers, but it just seems to me that fewer and fewer people know, understand, or comply with this unwritten rule of the road (sometimes it IS written). Even in driver's ed they taught us about moving to the right and flashing the high beams to slow pokes parked in the "passing lane".

:iagree:  Left lane is the fast lane.  Right lane is the slower lane.  Those are the basic rules of the road!  :2thumbs:

In the USA, we have lots of "me first" drivers with entitlement mentality.

This road rage video that has been going around here the past couple days is prime example. I think this woman was aggrevating the situation most likely pulling the old "slow down and use the right lane car for a blocker" From looking at the video she speeds up at the end, she is as guilty as he is in the situation.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Speed limit is for BOTH sides of the road. Left side is nobody's personal carpool/speeding zone.
I don't care how many 'think' it is. Tell that to the cop when your gettin that ticket. :icon_smile_wink:

I have about a 40 minute commute to school.  Secondary roads only.  I am always on the right lane doing the speed limit, passing cars in the left lane doing 5-10 under.  When the right lane is half buried under snow or there are a bunch of strip malls and people turn in and out constantly then I can understand sticking to the left but that's about it.  There's really no excuse to be in the left lane of a freeway going under the speed limit.

Laws vary by state. Here in pa, the left lane is reserved for passing only. They ticket left lane cruisers, even if only doing the posted speed limit.

I can only guess that they're just "passing out" driver's licenses these days.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but back in the day you really had to "earn" that piece of plastic.  Case in point?  My friendly neighbors, a couple from Ethiopa,  have no place working a toaster, let alone a motor vehicle, but someone, somewhere gave them licenses to drive.  They've hit the Charger twice since they've moved in.  No offense to anyone, but... :RantExplode:

Are we talking about the traffic in Seattle? I've been back and forth across the nation from Washington to New York and I'd have to say that Seattle is the worst.

I was taught years ago that the left lane is for passing. But it seems no one follows that rule these days. I use the riight lane as much as possible. It moves faster.

Seattle is too congested to tell. You gotta get to the outskirts to even pass at all.

The weirdest I've experienced in terms of passing is I-5 in CA. Trucks have to go 15mph slower than cars, so the cars all ride in the left lane - including the do-gooders saving our natural resources by driving 5 under. The fastest way to travel, as I observed for several hours, is to run up to 80 in the right lane between the trucks, dart into the left lane, band back into to truck lane. It's crazy. I intentionally took a different way back.

15 years ago, I found the drivers in Southern California very organized and stick in lane types.  Seemed to work.

I live in SoCal and I see plenty of slow drivers in ALL lanes. What's interesting is that in some states it is against the law to drive in the left lane, except to pass. Like WA were it is posted as such. A lot of times driving the I-5 up the central CA corridor, I will sit in the left lane because the right is so broken up. But I will move to the right when faster moving traffic comes up behind me.
And while the speed limit applies to all lanes, I would rather have the guy in a big hurry ahead of me. Easier to keep an eye on as he loses control and goes off the road.

A lot of roads here in mo have signes that say right lane for slower traffic. It pisses me of to get behind real slow drivers in the left lane.

68pplcharger

Kentucky and Ohio are also like that... i.e. it is illegal to drive in the left lane unless you are passing someone. Nobody pays attention to that rule and The police don't enforce it either. Makes driving very difficult in these areas.  :brickwall:

I have an uncle who is an Ultra Liberal, massive democrat....

He says he sits in the left lane on purpose, because "They don't need to be speeding anyhow."    :flame: :flame:
JUNKTRAVELER: all I've seen in this thread is a bunch of bullies and 3 guys that actually give a crap.

Try hanging out in the left lane if you are driving on the highways in Europe, like Italy or Germany. The people we complain about in this country wouldnt last a day over there. You basically have to have eyes in the back of your head and thinking two moves ahead at all times.

I don't see what being an ultra liberal democrat has to do with it but that attitude sucks.

Thats the way I was taught too. Left lane is passing lane...not 'fast' lane.

Surprised that we aren't reading about you in the papers for assault.  I know I'd feel like assaulting someone.....no matter how 'friendly' they are.

In Texas it is called the "passing" lane, therefore it is a faster lane. But you just can't explain that to some folk.

Last weekend we went to Newport Beach, from Phoenix. I use my driving method of stay to the right, except to pass. We flew up to Newport. Passing cars like crazy while all the trolls are lined up behind each other in the laft lanes. It's like they never read the driving manuals.
