I used to be on this sure years ago before the update. Ignore the dumb screen name. My first car was a 71 charger richard petty want to be. I was dumb and sold it when I was 17. Ever since then I've been looking for a deal on a clean 71 charger. I found this one on craigslist. I thought the price seems slightly high for condition and 71s aren't the most desirable. Could it be a real r/t? Do they come with bench seats and on the column? I need to figure out if I can justify a third car. Seem like a decent car?

15-20k for a true RT is just about right. The condition in the ad sounds nice.

Those are bucket seats actually. There's something wrong with the center armrest/buddy seat to be leaning like that....maybe its not bolted in?  I can also see a lot of other detail items that can be corrected on the car. Its definitely going to be a fixer upper if your looking to have a "correct" car.

1971 R/T's are desirable and this is a great color combo. I would like to see a much better interior (dash pad for example among other things) and more correct appearing presentation for that price.  The body work is a real factor in how much the car is actually worth, and from the pictures its hard to tell what to expect.  It also looks like the trunk has been getting wet for a while.  :scratchchin:

I think there's something going on with paint on the right rear of the deckild under the warped rear spoiler and the left front valence where it meets the fender.  I'd also like to know why the a/c control is hanging loose in the dash because the "little" things bother me, and make me wonder what else is also messed up for your 20,000 hard earned bucks.

Edit: But its a rust free car - - that's a BIG bonus!
Edit #2: With a numbers matching engine - - another bonus!

I'm looking at it on the computer rather than my phone now. Doesn't look quite as good as before... Definitely not 20k worth. I'll watch it for awhile on craigslist and make him a significantly less offer if the bodies clean in a week or so. I don't really need it and as of now can't afford to stick the money into it to make it perfect.

I think the price is in the ballpark.  Like what was said earlier, there are a few things you would need to investigate.  Looking at the fender plate it's a Lynch Road car that originally had a full black vinyl roof.  I could be interested but my better half says two chargers is more than enough  :'(

A true matching #'s R/T like that up here in chebbie land would easily fetch 19k, depending on a closer inspection for any rust.
As TCat mentioned a lot of little things wrong/broken in the interior. Makes you wonder about the rest of the car.

Looking at the pictures again, there's something wonky going on with both front grilles. It looks like one is going up, and the other is looking down. The front bumper also fits very poorly at both front fenders - especially the right. :eek2:

I bring this up because I'm dumbfounded when I see this stuff.  It doesn't take a whole lot of time and very little money to correct some of the things mentioned, but some people don't care apparently.  These small things would certainly help sell the car in my opinion....like replacing the wheel center caps on the right side for example!

I head over and take a look with $18,500 in my pocket. Charger will need a new rear wing, it is sagging.

It is a Charger I would not mind having, and I am not a 3rd Gen lover, just a liker. These cars are getting harder and harder to find as you know, and the prices keep going up!

price is about right for a numbers matching 71 r/t with all the good bits still on it(hard to find not molested ), needs some work but   :shruggy:
great colour (but I'm biased )  buddy seat and a/c to boot    :2thumbs:  try offering $18 500 and see what happens

. The rear end looks to be sagging too. The front end should never be taller than the rear.

64dartgt

Looks like someone threw the interior together in a hurry.  Look at the way the carpet is installed...the buddy seat not bolted in...the seats look great...probably professionally recovered.

A plain jane U-code (440) project car not running is about $5K, so $20K for a real numbers matching RT that runs and is in driver quality paint from AZ sounds decent to me.

Sublime/Sixpack

At first glance it appears to be a fairly nice car, but you'd better check it over really well! First place I'd look is under the trunk mat.

Poly, it looks like the wing on the back of my 1970 Cuda so yes it not correct. The go wing had longer flaps on the edges. 71 should have a Gull Wing, flaps are shorter. But, OEM one will bend in the heat over time, it is in AZ, not known for cool summers.
