'69 Fender Tag Help

Hope you guys can help me.  I've owned my '69 Charger for about 10 years now.  When I purchased the car, the fender tag was missing but the build sheet was there.  I have contacted datatags.com and was told that if the car was built at the 'G' plant, making a tag was doable.  But my car was built at Hamtramck (B) so apparently the layout is different?  Can you guys help me with the correct layout for my car?  How do you know what codes to include and what codes not to include?  I have done a search here on this topic, and for example, another thread showed some 'C' codes but did not include 'C93', which I believe is the code for carpet.  I have attached a few copies of the build sheet - I tried to darken one to make it easier to read.  Here is what I've done so far...

That is as far as I got as I'm not sure which codes to list and which ones I shouldn't.  Any and all help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott

Well, here is the fender tag info and layout from the 69 parts book. (down below)
Then what I would suggest is google 1969 fender tag and see if you can find one that is similar to yours for the layout on options. Not everything goes on the fender tag, for example:

And that is just a quick search.
Or better yet, see if a member here with a similar car as yours would be good enough to send a pic of his.

Thanks for the response, ODZKing.  In your examples, let's look at the 'C' code options.  C55 and C16 are pretty common but C93 (carpet) is never listed on a fender tag, why?

cdr

i would say in 69 ALL chargers had carpet.

cdr, if you look at it like that, then why would C55 be listed when all '69 Chargers had bucket seats?

Reason ,bucket seats required different braces for the seats than a bench.
Carpeting does not affect anything related to sheet metal or braces.

I have contacted datatags.com and was told that if the car was built at the 'G' plant, making a tag was doable.  But my car was built at Hamtramck (B) so apparently the layout is different?

I am interested in knowing why that is?  :scratchchin:

only thing I can think of   is  the inspectors stampings on the St Louis  fender tags , & in 69 they stamped body color twice , even for a vinyl top car ! other than that they pretty much the same  :scratchchin:
I wait to be corrected  :coolgleamA: :2thumbs:

Does your car have the wide rad or the narrow one ??
If it has the 26" rad you should have the number 26 on your tag just before the END stamp

My car originally had a 22" radiator in it - it has a 26" one in it now.  I did not about the '26' stamp on the fender tag.  Thanks 70 sublime.

This is a great topic!
I'm surprised that someone has never come across an engineering document that spells out what options get put on the fender tag. There has to be a logic to what gets put on the tag and what doesn't.

I'm surprised too.  I found a list of codes that have been proven to be used on fender tags on the '70 Charger registry, I believe.  I will post a link shortly.

What was coded, when it was coded and even where it was coded on the tag changed from factory to factory and during the year. Some items get coded part of the year and some don't.

That's why it's easy to spot bogus datatags made tags. They don't do the proper research. Their mistakes stick out like a sore thumb. They charge a lot for a bad reproduction.

They allow people to make changes to tags and put things on a tag that were not originally there. They, passively, help with fake documentation.

If that is the case, then I would think that it would be almost impossible to duplicate a CORRECT factory fender tag.

Here is the link that I mentioned:   http://1970chargerregistry.com/Misc/Fender_Tag.html
About 3/4 of the way down the page talks about codes that are known to be listed on fender tags.

Seems to be for datatags. Their bad tags show up on boards and cars all the time.

It's people like them that make tags showing 440 four speed A/C cars like the 68 Charger that popped up on eBay last week. (see I found a Unicorn thread). Somebody will, probably, get burned on that car because of a bad tag.

69CoronetRT - do you recommend that I NOT use datatags?  I really don't want to wait a year or two on Galen Govier........

I recommend that unless you are absolutely 100% positive how your tag came from the factory that you not have one made. If you are unsure and guess at things and are wrong, a bad tag makes your car suspect.

Do your own research as to what should be on the tag for your car and built during that time of year at the plant. If you are going to (over)pay them for their product, be damn well sure that you are getting what you want and is correct

do any of you guys know what X9 represents before the build date on my tag,
I haven't been able to find a reference for it,
thanks

ODZKing

You car was built October 16, 1968. The X9 is your interior paint color.  I am guessing it is black.
Interesting it is only 2 digits though.
Right above G9B, 383, 1969, Hamtramck

rob69

yup, its black
i noticed another tag in this tread had the same code
thanks
