I used to like looking at these sorts of things but now all I see is a typical frickin hoarder, makes me want to throw up......... I'm shocked that he's selling anything.  ::)

That may be one way to look at it BUT as a "fellow" hoarder as you call him  I would more likely call him a true enthusiast of cool cars who had the means at the time and love for the cars to "save" what he could. I would love to hear story of each car, and I am sure he could remember in detail, "he" found/acquired them. That's the true find. Not the fact that they have now been brought to the worldwide internet and he will be bombarded with exactly what kept all those cars safe and away from being parted out or sold countless times till they were unattainable to the normal guy! Just my  :Twocents:

:iagree: with XS29J. What we forget here is a lot of these cars that everybody thinks these guys should sell would not even exist today if it were not for the owners love of the hobby and their fore sight way back when. They bought these cars, pursued these cars and went to great lengths to acquire and save them back when few wanted them. A lot of these cars would not exist today were it not for guys like this. More exist today because of guys like this. Now that they have been Exposed to the world by some everyone naturally wants them because they have become rare and expensive. One way or another these cars will renter circulation at some point. If you really want one bad enough and offer enough you could own one I'm sure. To me these threads while interesting do little for the reputations of their owners on forums like this.

I agree with you there.  Hoarding gets a bad wrap from shows on TV.  These people did save them.  Otherwise they would have been crushed and made into refrigerators.

These people did save cars from being made into refrigerators agreed. However these people are generally perceived poorly in these threads. Most times the opinions expressed by the have nots is not good. I just don't agree with putting people in that position. My experience over the years is they are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. I just think its a shame the bad publicity they get sometimes because of these threads. They weren't bothering anyone just going on with life. :Twocents:

And ya I'm busy all day too. I wasn't in my driveway that day though until you showed up in it.

Ryan, first of all thanks for some more Barn Car "porn" for us to drool on  :2thumbs:

Second, I agree fully with the comments about the negative perception not being deserved because someone either had the foresight, or more than likely the desire to own and collect these cars.
I think many of the people throwing out comments like "sell them to me and let me save them" or "that guy is a jerk for letting them rot I should have them" are made out of jealousy. I bet a majority of those keyboard experts either dont have the cash or ability to bring even one of these cars back to restored/driver/survivor/show car status. It really would be no surprise to me if many of the rock throwers simply want to but these cars cheap, then flip for big bucks.

The race car had been shopped around a couple of years ago.     I believe it was in California as stated.

It's probably silly to even ask. But what kind of money are they asking for the Allison car?

Not sure what the asking price was.   It seems to have already changed hands.    Although it is in the same photo set, it's not part of the barn finds with all those other cars.

TheAutoArchaeologist

Sorry, I was out all day and went to bed early last night.

Yeah, the Allison car was at a friends shop on the way home.  It is not a barn find.  Just a cool find as I was not expecting it.

There is a video.  Enjoy

Ok, looks like I will be visiting the AERO cars tomorrow. Told him I would drive over in the 500. So lets hope the forecast is accurate and its going to be a pretty decent day. Gives me as good of a reason as any to get it out, and stretch its legs right? I mean whats a 245 mile drive when your cruising in a 500. Its a fun day if you ask me.

Now my kid wants to tag along too, which is never a bad thing. Glad he likes these cars.

Allison car?   Where???      :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol:

If someone bought that car thinking it was a real Mario Rossi- Bobby Allison driven race car, they were taken....
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

That's interesting, I literally just got off the phone with the owner.  This is a scam.

I don't get this as being a scam necessarily. More like someones ulterior motives. Link was posted on Moparts a couple days ago. Don't think for a minute think someone hasn't thought of this. As they say its all fun till someone gets hurt!

Troy

I was thinking the same thing. Guy says he needs capital. He's looking for someone else to pony up the cash so he can turn it onto a gold mine in restoration fees.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

TheAutoArchaeologist

It's a scam in the sense that the guy is full of it.

I talked to the owner.  He had talked to this yahoo at one point.  But never mentioned prices and such.  But they were working on a time for the kid to come out and see the cars.

I gave the owner the guys craigslist ad for reference.
