Anyone know how to get this broken handle off? With it in the car it is almost impossible to pound it out.  Roll pin I suppose, but it won't budge.

I see new ones come with a pin ... drill it ... what?

I used the new pin to press the old one out, lock grips pliers , rag on handle so I didn't mark it up, just be careful not block the back hole where pin will force out,
Ended up with both pins half way in , you can get a grip on them with pliers and  pull both out ,
Job done , like you I had to do it in the car and this worked

Bob, can't you remove the pull rod from the car and work on it on the bench?

No. it is riveted in.  Thought about drilling it out and just replacing the rod and handle as I do have anther one.
I thought I'd ask first if there was an easy way to do this. FY's solution may work.

Dino

Bob you may not have a safe way to do this but if you can heat that pin up, it'll come out with much less force needed and FY's trick will work pretty damn good.

If you have an attachment with a small tip that may do it.  Better yet, do you have a high watt solder iron with a pointy tip?  You may be able to heat up the pin that way without causing any damage to the surrounding area.

yeap, rod is riveted

I was able to remove it... EASY... finish to break and remove the plastic parts. Pin ends will be exposed, and small vicegrips will make the rest to be pulled out.

to reinstall, clean everything, and mostly sure will get in really gently, not hard.

BTDT... got two broken in 10 years, but fortunatelly got spare ones from some JYs... at this moment using the last one LOL

Hard to drill a spilt pin or roll pin, slot grabs the drill fluts, no fun at all. Need to support the other side of the pin with a block of wood cut to fit up against something or have someone hold it. Then again thinking about this I need to make a tool to do this, already got an ideal. :scratchchin:

Well it got up to 27 (F) here today but the sun is shining bright. The garage took in some sun so it was quite a bit warmer than outside and I decided to take a shot at the handle.  I found in my soldering gun kit, an end that looked like it was made for cutting. Fired it up and it went through the remaining piece like butter. (Thank You Dirk!!!!)
However even with the handle off and the ends sticking out of the roll pin, what a job getting it out!!!
I finally did, but not until some  :brickwall: words flew!  Good thing I was in the garage.  Thing is, it's in an odd spot and you just can't get good hold of it. Anyway, I got it out so now I can order the new one.
Has anyone had experience with this fellow? It's less by a couple dollars but I appreciate the savings unless its junk for some reason.

Thanks for everyone's help.
BTW, that is Binxey checking my work.
