I've searched here and couldn't get a definite answer to my query. I'm installing a Proform 750 carb to my 440. I have a Edelbrock CH4B intake with a stock air cleaner. Do I need a carb spacer? And if so what do I need? Thanks in advance! John

Do you NEED one?  I would say not necessarily but a spacer can help some issues you might be having (vapor lock etc)

See here for my spacer adventure with a similar combo to yours...

Thanks for the reply Chris, I actually read the thread that you had a while back when you installed a new main body on your carb. I saw the spacer you had an wondered if I needed the same. I did have a problem with vapor lock with my Eddy carb, until I put and eddy heat spacer thing in between.... So now installing the Proform carb, I was wondering if it would be beneficial to intall a spacer like yours. Maybe I have to try to find out how the car runs without one first.... Thanks Again!!!!!

Run the spacer, it will help with heat soak , there was a thread on this not long ago,
Trialled several on mine on the dyno, and improvements with a 1 1/2 spacer

A 1/2" phenolic will do the trick. Check your hood clearance, if you can fit a 1" then get the thicker one

If you have the clearance for it you'd be crazy not to use a spacer.  My  :Twocents:

As for hood clearance was already an issue with mine, so went with the size it liked, let me us know what you experience like dislike about the proform carby , haven't had a chance to try mine,

I currently have an eddy 750 with their .320" heat insulator with my stock air cleaner. No clearance issues. I dont know if the Proform is any taller than the eddy yet...

Anytime you add a spacer, make sure you also take into account the air cleaner stud. I made that mistake once. It cleared until that little bit of motor mount torque lift made a dent.

Not good on a finished car...  :icon_smile_blackeye:

My car had a raised area because of that stud as well but I was able to massage it back down.

That issue in itself is probably worthy of a sticky!   :icon_smile_big:
