Does anyone know where you can find door edge protectors for 69 charger?

twodko

I've never seen door edge protectors on these cars. You might check the Classic Industries MOPAR catalog for some.  :shruggy:

If you're looking for the metal kind I can't help but... I used a 3/8" clear vinyl tape.  I use it on all my cars as a door edge protector and anywhere else I want to protect without making a visual statement.   It's just about invisible from more than 5 feet distance.

Here's one source:

I think it was a dealer installed thing from the accessory catalog IIRC.

There was a designated Sales Code (M05) and suggested retail price ($4.65) shown on the '69 Charger Confidential Price Bulletin, plus they're listed in the '69 Dealer Data Book - so it should have at least been possible to factory-order a car with door edge protectors.  However, the '69 Charger Dealer Order Sheet I've seen doesn't list either M05 or "door edge protectors" anywhere under "Other Optional Equipment" - so that might explain why I don't recall having seen too many (any?) B-sheets with M05 coded.  It may have ended up being a de facto dealer-installed item like Ghoste said, simply because the salesman didn't have a box to check which designated that option.

:shruggy:

Every so often a NOS set of edge protectors will float across eBay, but since most of these cars aren't used as daily drivers anymore I wouldn't think they'd be too sought after.  I'm more worried about the person parking next to me in the parking lot than I am about chipping my own door edge paint.

And you know, I should check my 69 accessory catalog and just see if they are in there.

Yep, shown on Page 12...

'68-9 Charger Door Edge Protectors, p/n 3004373, with a suggested price of $3.10...

Hmm, this could become a project now to see if they turn up on a broadcast sheet out there someplace.

Mopar4me

My charger has them. Sales Code M05 on the broadcast sheet here's a copy of it.

That's wild! I've never seen them before. They must be made from unobtainium these days.

I have a set around here somewhere. I always wondered were they came from as they fit the lines of the car too perfect to be from an auto parts store. Ill tell you one thing, they scratch the paint so if you add them to your car you better plan to keep them on there.

bill440rt

I have a NOS set stashed away somewhere, bought them decades ago as an afterthought. Never installed them.

Which is ironic considering they were sold for the very purpose of preventing that.

I have them on my red 70 Charger also. I have had people in the past say get those gay chrome stick on strips of your door edges until I show them they are factory pieces then they are blown away that they are made to fit the car.
