I have been looking at chargers and came across this one on CL, not really so much looking for a GL (although not opposed to it) I'm mainly looking for a driver quality 20K or under Charger. Other than the obvious wrong wheels to be a GL and painted on dirt (WTF?) what can you guys pick apart from this ad?

ottawamerc

Not crazy over priced try $13,500 I especially like the painted in dents! :smilielol:

This hobby is more than just our cars, it's the people you get to meet along the way!!!

I'd look elsewhere.  The whole front end looks sculpted out of bondo.  No telling what is hidden everywhere else.

Ghoste

No end caps in the rear valence so I'd say its sculpted from bondo as well.  I'd want to see it in person to know how much "patina" is painted on and how much was just painted over.  It could be a great car just hard to tell from photos when they have purposely distressed it.

PrisonHack

What do you mean about the end caps on the real valence? I noticed that the fenders are probably a bondo sculpture but the rear valence is something where
I'm not sure exactly what to look for. I am just beginning to look so I am not planning to jump on anything to quickly. I will probably be posting a few cars here to get you guys opinion and to learn exactly what to look for. I want to do a lot of research and get opinions on  any car before I go look in person, I'm scared when I get there in person I will turn into a drooling 5 year old and want it automatically because it's a charger LOL

Ghoste

The end caps are smoothed over, you should be able to see them but frequently they use the old valence and caps and bondo everything over in one smooth piece.

think the words  painted on patina rust is creative marketing  :Twocents:  the photos are next to usless really to show anything ,

but what it does show ! IS  find another car IMO  , unless you can get it cheap & your looking for on to do a complete resto on  , strange how the painted on rust  covers the stainless & chrome :scratchchin:

Nothing like a "fresh" and "new" 440 with a fine layer of dust all over it and the engine bay...

All wrong gauges and what's with the painted black coffee can at the battery tray?

PrisonHack

I noticed the black coffee can thing as well, I wasn't sure what that was. I didn't now if maybe it was some sort of vacuum canister or something. I also hate the hood pins and why wouldn't you at least put air in your low tire before taking pictures for a for sale ad?
I knew this car was pretty suspect, I just don't know how much better I can expect to find in this price range.

twodko

The dust covering the engine is part of the patina package. The coffee can thingy is
the nitrous bottle. Jeez, do I have to tell youse guys everything?

Definitely a "must see in person" car before making any decisions. I would never fake patina a car to look like UNDOCUMENTED GL parts, which makes me question how fake the patina actually is. Plus, if those are real TV parts, I'd rather save/display them rather than installing them on a driver.

However, in the end, that car may be exactly as described and worth the $, but go look at it first.

A poor man's method (my method) of replacing the vacuum can for the headlight system is to grab any old can and use it as the vacuum reservoir instead of trying to buy an expensive, inconvenient or non-existing part...

Hum, with the prices of 69 Chargers today, rolling rust buckets $7000.00 it would be worth looking at. I am not a DOH fan or a GL fan but with it being a running Charger with a 440 I would go look at it.

If the rust bubbles are painted on by the left front A pillar on the roof, dam that persons was good!!

That car gives me an uneasy feeling.  At the least you need to see it in person and if that's not an option than my advice is to forget about this car altogether.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Unless you have the one way check valve, a typical can is nothing but that......a can.

It's inline with today's market. Hop in and enjoy. Course, I've been trying to get round that price for my own General Lee and it seems people are still looking for a rust free, running/driving, 2nd gen Charger for $5k. To that I say good luck. I'd check it out in person and see if it's a project and how bad it is.
