Dont ask why there is a th350 and Gm 8.5 rear in my 69 charger because that's the way i got the car  :rotz: I did recently get a 727 that i plan on putting in and i dont quite have the money to cough up for a Dana 60, so is there some sort of conversion available to mate the two? Or should i just see about trading it for an 8 3/4 if i can find one.

Really? You drop a CHEVY bomb like this and don't want anyone to ask about it? Was this a leftover stunt car from the "Fast and Furious" movie?

I'd definitely look for a 8 3/4, but in the meantime, you'd just have to measure the caps on the u joints.  Only question is whether the GM thing is the same dimensions as a Mopar measuring from the axle centerline and the u joint flange. :scratchchin:

Haha not quite, the original builder was a big chevy guy and decided he didnt want to spend the extra money on mopar stuff when he had chevy parts laying around.....go figure  :shruggy:

The GM 8.5 is a decent piece. It isn't as strong as an 8 3/4" but they did put them in about a zillion cars and trucks for many years. If you keep it, keep an eye on C clip wear. They do tend to wear and get thin enough to slip out, causing the axle shaft to exit the housing unanounced....
As said, if you want to use the 727 and keep the GM axle, there are hybrid U joints out there. You could even have a driveshaft modified. Lucky for you the 66-70 B body 8 3/4 axle is the most common version to find. Heck, I have 3 here and I haven't even looked for one. They seem to just pop up, so I buy them as cheap as possible. I've seen drum-drum complete for $200 with a 2.76 one legger. Of course you'll pay more for a more desireable ratio. If you stumble upon an axle with the clutch type Sure Grip, by all means grab that thing! They are rebuildable. They can be identified by the design of the differential case which has bolts that hold the halves together. The less desireable "Cone" differential has no bolts except that retain the ring gear.

ok so it seems like the right thing to do here is keep the 8.5 until i find an 8 3/4. Thanks for the advice guys
