Last 2 pics. Data plate and door vin sticker. If I change the color of blue slightly, then I'll have to spray the jams. I've masked off the vin sticker before but don't like the slight paint edge buildup. The tire size sticker is still in mint condition on the quarter panel jam and I don't want to mess it up. If I don't change the blue, the paint in the jams cleans up great. Any suggestions on how other members get around this problem?
Thanks
Terry

Yes, get new stickers.  The tire sticker is available at a few places including http://www.performancecargraphics.com/
I had my Vin Data decal sticker done at http://www.ecsautomotive.com/productsVIN.php.
You send them several close up pics of it and they will do a perfect reproduction of it.
Problem solved.

No they won't resize, you'll have to or it'll give you an error.
here are your vinyl roofs with description from the 74 data book. You should hav the top one, yes?

Holy crap!!! I know these cars well but I NEVER knew that you could get an 73-74 SE Charger with a Halo Vinyl top!!! Good info Bob.

just on 73, not 74s

pic posted comes from 73 dealership databook... this is 74 databook

The second picture IS a halo roof.
What are you smokin' down there?   :smilielol:

Nacho-RT74

yes, but I meant, he thought 74 SEs could get Halo top too, but was just on 73. The pic from dealership databook you posted is just 73s ;)

about smoking... well we are getting lacrimogen gas bombs quite often :P

Looking at that dash frame I'd be repairing it.  :yesnod:

well my vote is still... get a one piece part and reinstall the VIN plate instead patch :)

74Rallye

Something is missing from your pics! Where is the rust & crust?

NICE CAR!

tfdub

This car has spent most of it's years in eastern Washington State in the desert. The interior is faded but ok. I'll be painting them with the lagoon blue SEM flex paint. When I got the car, it still had the old bubble wrap type K-Mart seat covers over the cloth insert factory seat covers. Somebody tried to protect the car. The engine, tranny and front suspension have been rebuilt. I'm looking forward to driving the car again.

My other 74 Charger is in about the same condition as this one - no rust. I paid $900 for it and drove it home. I'm looking forward to building it like I want to.

Nice looking sheet metal. It is a definite bonus. Regarding the dash frame, since it is out I would agree with Nacho. Get the rivets and follow the local protocol to keep it on the up and up with regards to registration authenticity. My :Twocents:

Another question. I've seen over the years where owners have had a duplicate data plate made for their Mopar. The reason usually given is so the original plate can't be stolen someplace like at a show. I've considered having this done for my Challenger convertible as well as this Charger. Have people really had a problem with this? I've also seen where they usually have one code  changed by a digit to differentiate from the original plate. I've never had anyone try messing with the engine compartment of my car at shows. I've had individuals photograph the data plate on the Challenger. So, is it really necessary to protect the car/data plate?

There was an entire thread about that at one point.  And while it's rare, I guess it has happened.
If you are concerned, the thing to do would be find similar screws for the fender tag, and put nuts under the fender so they can't just zip them off. If they have to spend time chances are they won't bother.

*note ... I do remember that thread and as I recall Bull was going to weld his lug nuts on the car ... I laughed for days about that!!!!   :smilielol:

The dash frame has the VIN riveted to it. If you are really going for originality, I'd suggest hacking a parts car frame to restore the original one.

BTW, a 74 360 Rallye Charger is pretty rare sight to begin with, let alone that most any of them that were built have been chopped up, modified, and parted out.

oddly enough... one on ebay right now...

This may be true, but let's face it.  73/74 Chargers are not highly sought after and they are the cheapest 3rd Gens. out there. :Twocents:
Don't believe me, start a poll.

hemihead

73/74 ' s are the cheapest out there but parts are hard to get and very expensive when you do find them or when they are repro'ed .

It was interesting to see the 74 Charger on e-bay. It's a console shift whereas mine's a column shift. That was a change I was going to make if I wasn't going to put it back to original. The blackout on the hood is different than mine. Mine doesn't have the fine black line around the outside of the blackout allowing a thin body color line to show. It also has the halo vinyl top instead of the canopy style. It's interesting to see the differences. As a side note, I went into a Dodge dealer today to look at a 2014 Challenger in plum crazy. The salesman told me if I wanted one with a different color, they'd have to find one. I asked about ordering one and he just chuckled. I guess those days are long gone.

Have you ever thought about jus leaving the non-function vent in place?
If you prefer it back to original I'd go Natcho's route.

From the numbers I see, looks like 1,955 360's in Chargers in 74. Only 69 with 360 4bbl HP.
Just looking at the dealer sheets as well.  73 was the last year for 340 so 360 wasn't even available in 73 (below)

Do you have a photo of the '74?  I'm not so sure about the "69" number you mention.  I always thought the Rallye 360 only came with the 4bbl option.
Few lines into this post....

4 bbls only option for any model... thinking was the 340 substitute

I have thought about leaving the non functioning vents in place. I have 2 or 3 rallye dashes for a 74 and the harnesses. I also have a non a/c dash frame and 2 a/c dash frames. I can make up either one and go with it. I'll make the decision depending on which dash looks the best. That way, no welding involved. My other 74 charger has a standard dash and a/c and I'll probably change it over to a rallye dash. I' can go any way on both cars. Thanks.

That's where I picked up my 74 Rallye. In fact, I have a habit of looking to "other" side to find all my cars. Are you in WA?

Yes, I live in Washington - Tri Cities. Easiest place to find cars with very little rust. Interiors are sun baked, but that's easier to replace than floors and quarter panels.
