Piston Size

440 engine bored .030 over.
I understand that the cylinders are honed to clear the piston diameter about .003 to .005.
My question is: How much larger is the diameter of the piston skirt that the top of the piston?, or near the rings?
The bores are honed to clear the skirts.

LOTS !
.030" to .040" is not uncommon depending upon Piston construction, material, etc. to allow the piston Head/Top to expand at combustion temps and fit the Bore.
Not uncommon to be able to actually SEE the rings when looking down from the top.
Only wimps wear Bowties !

I believe the pistons did measure  over .020 smaller at the top.  They are at the machine shop so I can't check now.
