Hi guys, just kidding about the volt thread, a few of you would get the joke.  Back a few years ago when the chevy volt was first coming out we had such a disagreement about the car being a good or bad thing that thread finally got shut down.  It was nasty.  A lot of members thought the future of electric cars would never take off.  The Volt turned into a political machine rather than a peek into the future.
One thing people said to me was why don't you buy one if you love it so much?  I couldn't afford one at the time was truly the reason.  Well, after selling my 69 charger I bought a 2002 Trans Am ram air convertible, I loved the car but was realizing owning a special toy car wasn't doing it for me so I sold it.  I have no guy toys for the first time in 40 years and that's just fine. but........
3 days ago my wife and I bought our first ever new car.  We almost got a Volt.  It's the 2014 Ford fusion titanium energi. Bottom line, 108 mpg/e per gallon.  This car is amazing.  Solid Detroit steel with all the bells and whistles.  I went out for a coffee this morning on partial electric and got 64 mpg.  Keep in mind this is a 5 passenger solid nice size car.  That's why we passed on a Volt.  The Volt is 4 passenger car and after battery depletion it gets in the 30+ mpg because the engine runs a generator to feed the motors.  The energi gets 43 mpg after the 21 mile battery depletion.  So the energi is 100% electric and a hybrid.  Ford really did a great job.  We took advantage of the 5,000.00 gov credit so thank you to all of you.  Bottom line, you guys asked me why I don't buy such a car?  Well I finally did.
My muscle car days may be over but I so look forward to seeing a beautiful 68/70 Charger still take to the streets.

And the Fusion looks a million times better than the Volt! My biggest complaint with new technology is that they feel the need to wrap it in a clown costume to get attention...

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Hey Troy nice hearing from you.  Me, I like em all.  But my favorite is the new Caddilac ELR.  Just saw my first commercial on one today.
Since I've always been a used Honda owner for the family car, It was real nice throwing money to the boys in Detroit.

Great to hear from you Rob... and enjoy the new car!  I'm glad you are passing the word around here that Detroit still builds great cars! :2thumbs:

I was waiting for you to respond.   You've always been a die hard Detroit fan.  Driving this car is exciting to say the least.  Its fun to play around with gas enine/ battery power combinations.
Solid quiet quality American engineering.

I know guys that are getting upwards of 45 MPG in the new Dart for a lot less money...    :Twocents:
Did you know the Dart has almost as much interior room as the Fusion?
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

No one is saying the Fusion energi is a good financial deal.  But 108 mpg/e is impressive.

45 mpg is awesome for the Dart at that price.

Best of Luck with your new Fusion!!!
I lease a 14 with the 1.5 Eco Boost for my wife. Very solid car but my gas mileage is a small disappointment.  At 70 MPH the best it will give is 27 MPG. You have to drive 55MPH to get 30 MPG.
My 12 Fusion used to give me 29MPG at higher speeds. The fit and finish is excellent and it drives very nice.

That fusion is pretty sharp looking, 108 mpg :o. I hear you on interior room, great choice on your part.

Best I ever did in my 06 SRT8 was 28 mpg on a tank while in montana with the cruise set at 78 mph, usually is around 20-22 mpg hwy.
My daughter gets 40mpg with her 98 Saturn pretty consistently though.

Thanks guys.  It really is a sharp car.   The trunk space is small because of the batteries.   The wife pused for the hybrid because the trunk was larger.   The hybrid does 47/47.  I so wanted the energi so I could cruise around on all battery power.   When he came out with the numbers the energi was less than the hybrid,  what?  It was because of the 5k rebate.   So we got the energi and my new thule roof rack arivrived yesterday.   :icon_smile_big:
Funny thing is the Thule factory is 2 miles from my house but I brought it in Illinois on ebay.

Needs a blue deuce on the side :2thumbs:

Just a family car my friend. When I told the wife I would car shop and get back to her, I ran to this new Fusion.  I loved what i saw. This all started because we rented a Chrysler 300 (right after our 17 year old daughter totaled her Volvo convertible after driving it for four months). She LOVED the car and the bells and whistles. That car even had heated rear seats.  I went with the Fusion because of the gas milage over the 300 but they are both solid American works of art.
First thing she said was, I don't want a Ford.  I was  :o Have you seen their commercials lately? Have you driven a Ford lately? They are on top of the game, you'll see. She loves it.

Drove the wife to work and back today and then did the math.  Bottom line. .60 cents per electric  2.00 per gas.  Other good news is that electric can be found right in my garage next to the car.

Due to the small trunk holding the batteries I had to spend 750.00 to buy a Thule roof rack and gargo box.  My wife almost past on the car because we need a large trunk for my daughters cheer leading bags.  We only do a few long trips a year.  Then I just take it off after the trip.
Her point is why make a car with great gas milage to take on trips that has a small trunk area to bring bags for the trip?

That thing on the roof will kill your MPGs.....   :Twocents:
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

1969chargerrtse

That is true but it'll always get better mpg than our big thirsty Honda Pilot. Plus at lights or crawling in traffic the engine shuts off.  Probably only mount it 2 to 3 times a year.

No Charger, no Trans-Am; I can't even imagine a life without both of mine.  I hope this new machine of yours continues to treat you well...

Yeah it's hard to explain or understand.  When the feeling leaves you it's just gone.  When I see a classic today I just feel been there done that.  If it doesn't treat us well back to the dealer it goes.  Bumper to bumper for 3 years.
