I would like to hear a impartial review as well as my wife is after me for one.

Can the transfer cases be put in neutral?

My wife has one - and the answer to your question depends on the transfer case.  Hers is full-time 4WD and there literally is no shift mechanism or 4LO/N setting.   Hers is the V6 base model with Quadra Trac I, but every limited I've seen has Quadratrac II.

QT II does have neutral and 4LO. Your options are 4HI (full time, but really RWD until the rear starts slipping, then a coupler adds torque to the front on demand as-needed), 4LO (locked 4WD) and neutral.   There's no 'true' 2WD option though - in 4HI you're in 2WD mode 99.999% of the time on pavement.  Also, the Neutral setting is for flat towing, and might require you to go through a certain procedure to prevent gear damage.  My Ram is this way and I'd be suprised if the Jeep was different.

They're anything but junk.  Before I got my Ram I SERIOUSLY considered chasing down a Limited Hemi until I realized having the same car as your wife is like wearing matching sweaters.   The chassis is the same as the WK Grand Cherokee so there are aftermarket options for things like lift and engine upgrades.

I personally love them, especially the Hemi models.  They are as close to an old-school Jeep as Ma Mopar has come in the last 10-15 years.   They didn't discontinue them due to poor sales, but rather they had the new Durango on the slate, and didn't think it would be market-wise to have 3 different 7-passenter SUV's on the same lot (The GC being the third).   I disagree and think the Commander is 10x better than the Durango.    It looks like an old XJ Cherokee but can be had with Hemi power.   It's like the dream Jeep.

Good luck, and post pics!!! I love Jeep porn almost as much as Charger porn :)

My buddy has one and all I know is that it takes 16 spark plugs. Two per cylinder.
I guess if one goes out it has the other as backup.  :shruggy:

Looks like a nice deal.  Brian, does it come with a rebuild or salvage title?  I always wondered about that piece.  I just bought a beater car and was looking at doing something like this.

The title will be branded as prior salvage when it's all said and done. I'm ok with that, because we will drive it until its old and don't matter anymore. If a person was to buy one and want to trade it in at a dealer, they would discount the value big time, if they would trade it in at all.

In my opinion,if they are fixed right and pass an inspection they should be free of the branded title. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way because of the cobblers out there that gave rebuilt cars a bad name......

Is that the actual one you bought Brian ? It deos'nt look to be bad enough to be a salvage vs. the year (09).Must work the same everywhere,if the damage is 70% or greater of the book value,it is deemed salvage.Would think that Jeep still had some pretty high value ?
I wouldn't fix a salvage title vehicle,they're never the same !! ::)

It varries from state to state , but its puzzling to me as well why this one is salvage. Hopefully it's still puzzling when it arrives.

Yes the link is to the actual one .

For a long term driver its hard to beat that deal. Based on the description it looks like a lot of vehicle for the price!

I'm told that the Hemi is a little better than the 4.7.

All of us should ALREADY know the gas attendant very well...

Brian,
I'm just going off of what my friends who own them have said.  One gets 12 and the other gets 14.  The dude who gets 12 also bought his as a builder.  He put a lift on it and bigger tires.  So that could be part of the reason for the lower mileage.  They look pretty sweet lifted and I certainly don't see too many lifted around here.

LOL, I'm well acquainted with the gas stations around here.  My heavy foot costs me a lot of money.  My supercharged Challenger is only getting around 15 now and my truck is only getting 15 because I have to start it every morning to warm it up thanks to this never ending polar vortex that seems to be sitting right on top of Minnesota.

Not sure how the Hemi for 09 does but just to let you know I average 19.7 over the winter in my 05 Hemi Durango. That's mostly highway. Got 22.1 in it when we went on vacation to Florida last summer with 7 people and gear in it for the week.
