I have a 73 charger with a hot little 318. It had a column shift 904 and it just won't hold up. I want do a swap to a 727. Who had done this? I know a lot of chargers were floor shift. What all would I need to make swap clean and smooth? Same drives shaft or different?

Different drive shaft for sure. (Shorter ans splines different).
Otherwise, small block 727's can be had from HE apps. Such as trucks, vans, and Motor Homes.

So need a different drive shaft and input shaft. What about the shift linkage since mine is column shift? Will that hook right up?

A 904 can be built to take anything a 318 can put to it.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I hD this 904 built damn strong by a race shop and it still wouldn't hold up.  Keeps welding the bands.

Find another shop, racers run the 904 behind Hemis and they live.

If you have a higher stall converter, have you added extra cooler to the trans? It is not you Hot 318 that is welding the bands, it is the hot fluid temp.

Your 904 column shift linkage will fit a 727 except for the trans bracket you will need one for a 727 which i have if you need one. You also need to have a 727 trans that came from the 70's or chances are it won't have the lower mount provision cast on the trans bell to connect the trans bracket to. Earlier automatic transmissions do not have it. If you need a pic for reference of this mount provision just let me know
