Hey ya'll.

Just finished installing my MSD-6AL system in the Daytona. Previously, I was running a single-point distributor with a cub idle timing of 10 degree BTC and then hooked up the vacuum advance, just normal stuff. The car started and idled nicely and ran along nice. I installed the MSD-6AL using another single-point distributor as a trigger ( gap at 16 and condenser out ). I notice right off the bat, I had to adjust the timing a LOT at curb idle. I am assuming the internal timing setting on the MSD is different. Compared to where the OEM settings was, I had the retard the timing a lot in order to get a 10 degree BTC at idle with the MSD running. Because of this, I had to increase the carb idle setting and fuel-air mixture. The car doesn't seem to run as smooth at idle as it did before. BUT, get her driving down the road and Holy mackerel !!! The MSD kicks that 440 in the butt...... What a difference in power.........

I recently installed a system in my friend's '71 440 six pack and it purrs like a kitten at idle. But, he is running the MSD billet distributor.. I was going to experiment utilizing my electronic ignition distributor and see if that makes a difference at idle. Again, when I'm going down the road with the points as a trigger, feels and acts great. I'm a'learnin' on the fly...

Cool.  I have an orange box that has never given me a problem ::knock on wood:: - and I have been somewhat skeptical about what sort of power gains the MSD would serve up at moderate rpm's.  I like hearing that the MSD makes a noticeable difference.

You would think the MSD would improve the idle since it can make the most "hits" at lower rpm.

I did notice a positive difference at cold idle.   :2thumbs:

You can tell the cylinders are getting hit good with juice.......
