How far should exhaust tips extend?

How far out should exhaust tips extend on a 2nd gen (70)?  Mine extend beyond the lower valence, but not out past the bumper.  Is this too far out?  I am wondering if they should not extend past the bottom of the lower valence.

My car did not come with tips (it had turn downs) so I do not have a sense of where they should be.

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

It looks about right from the pic but ultimately your tips hangar is going to determine the placement.

They are hooked into the exhaust hangers pretty well, but could probably fit in closer by about an inch, maybe a little more.

Look pretty much the same as mine. This was the day they were installed.

People always ask why "Christine's" tips stick out so far behind bumper. I tell them, I can see you've never had to clean black spots of a $1500.00 Chrome bumper before. That neat and tucked look is great as like long as you don't mind soot all over your backend.

Back in the day before unleaded gas the exhaust fumes would literally eat the chrome off the bumper and tail light chrome trim. That's why you see so much heavy pitting on rear chrome parts.

IIRC there was a thread on this, perhaps in the Aero section or Moparts maybe, documenting on some original cars how far the tips extended. They were pretty close if I recall, perhaps only 2" or so out? Definitely not past the bumper.
