Yah baby yeah....done it wide now she gets roughly 150 miles using 17.5 gallons......damn I feel good.  That's with a bad carb that needs rebuilt, almost badly. Here she sits while my son and I get some taco bell with her new/old tires.

Eight and a half isn't bad at all. Drive agressively with a four speed and you can see 6mpg easily.

You build that car?

I can show you pics from when she was found in 05 when she needed a new floor plan, rear trunk, etc..she was in body shop for year and half.  Not a concourse car but a driver is HOW I WANTED HER BUILT not for garage time.

So yes and no I did not build her we built her a collaboration between friend and I.

That's exactly what I am going to do with my car. I'm building it myself but I'm not gonna make it so nice that I'm scared to take it out and drive it. So much more fun when you actually get to use it!   :2thumbs:

Nice car, great color. I like the bigger diameter wheels too. Many purists bitch about how they look "out of proportion". To that I say the wheelwells on the classics are not much if any smaller than late model cars.  If you grew up with 14 and 15" tires on these cars, you might have the impression that smaller diameter wheels are the ONLY way to go.
Was your mileage based on a mix of in town and freeway driving? I don't recall your engine and trans specs or the axle ratio. I'm not sure what I get around town but I once got 12.8 in my car on the way back from L.A. 493 with a '509 cam, 850 VS Demon carb, 727 with a GV OD and 3.91 gears. I was hoping to squeak out a bit more once I get the carb tuned just right.

I'll look you up, shouldn't be hard to spot that beauty!!!

We run a 4 speed, 383 mild, 509 cam, kb pistons, 750 dp,10.5 to 1 ratio, 20s in bqck 18s in front, 3.23 gearing.  Its a mix of highway and traffic stop and go. She dynoed at 300hp and 385ft lbs with that bad carb. When I had bigger tires she spun at 2700rpms at 80mph now she spins at 3k at 77mph.

Nice car,  :drool5:, spotted something else that looks good also, green leaves on the trees. I am ready to go snow blind around here. :eek2:.

Me too, bring on the spring.

I would be happy with 8.5  tried out some 22x10  did not fit

1974dodgecharger

OMG don that looks SEXY!!!!  Was the tire too wide or rim?  I really want to do 305s back there on the 20x10 rim, I was looking up some measurements from pirelli pzero tire that are 305s and they are .2inches bigger than the 295 version I have back there. I looked and I Might fit them back there....but would like to check fit them before I make a purchase dont know if anyone is gonna let me do that one.

don duick

backspace was wrong too much dish on outside. These are my brothers wheels was trying them out as he wanted to see what they looked like. Cant afford these as they are $4000 billet intros. If you get 20x10 with 5.5 backspace and use 295 tyre should fit as low profile tyres have no shoulders they are flat and same width as the edge of the rim. I think you need 12 inch wide to fit 305 tyres that might be tight. you will have to jack the car from the diff and measure your wheel well. I used to have 15 x 10 with 275 x 50. they were tight as the overall width shoulder to shoulder was 295. To make them fit evenly I had 5 inch backspace on the left side and 5.5 backspace on the right side because of the difference in axle lengths. Heres another photo

garner7555

Loving the look of both of those blue cars with 20s out back!  :drool5: :2thumbs:

I have 20 x 10s on the back of mine and they appear to fit great. (I'm still building the car so I haven't been able to road test yet.)  I don't know the back spacing, they were some used wheels I had and decided to test fit on charger.   The wheels already had tires on them so I have 285 40 in rear and 255 45 up front. (20" up front as well)   I like these widths ok but the height is way too tall since I am lowering the car, especially up front.

yeah those rims are badass DON, but alas I could never afford them (they would be low on my list to do for the charger).

I guess I will stick with 295s in the rears im happy with them they look great to me, but having wider tires dont hurt either.

don duick

If you want to go with 20s you have to slam it otherwise they look wrong. If you can you should modify your rear wheel well to fit 305s and lower it about 2 inches at least.

this thread went in the wrong direction It started with economy {or lack thereof} to wheel sizes ha ha ha
