If the rest of the car looks just as good as what has been posted,  I think you could de Generalize it, add bumble bee stripes, and Magnum 500's, and make enough money to get a 69 to build you a GL like what you're wanting.  Just an option.

I know you've been waiting for one for a while.  How solid is this car? :popcrn:

If its as good as it looks, and priced as right as you say it is, maybe just buy it, its still a charger, and from behind the wheel (if you ignore the dash) its pretty much the same, maybe the fact its a 68 will grow on you, or maybe you'll be able to trade it in a year or so  :scratchchin:

I have seen plenty of 1970 General Lee's too.  I love them all.

Too much money to change colors. Keep it a 68.

One more note if you change the tail lights to 69 version, check your local state laws regarding back-up lights....some states require reverse lights after the 1966 model year....if you get a grumpy cop on a bad day....well, you get the idea

How about just buy it anyway, drive it for a while and then decide if you want to convert it or sell it on, it could mean the difference between a long wait for another car at the right price. And, likely, you'll get your money back anyway...

Yeah i said it before, but i agree, if its priced right, buy it anyway until another comes along, OR... you may end up falling for it  :2thumbs:

Thankyou all very much for your input, but i think this is where my head is now at after all of your amazing feedback and comments. This one comment really got me thinking.

Forum memeber Dino's, comment really hit home for me

"if I would drive a GL then it would HAVE to be a true 69.  I don't care if they used '68's on the show, which they did.  I could never feel the same driving a '68 GL, no matter how well converted it was."

Deep down if i am honest with myself i think this would get to me too, although i might finally have my GL and be overjoyed about that, a part of me would always say inside "yeah but it's a 68' and not a true 69' GL like you always said you would get" , the 68's are cool don't get me wrong!, but since the age of 9 i have always wanted a 69' GL , so with that in mind i think Dino's comment along with everyone's has helped me make up my mind. I will pass on this one as i think the idea of finally owning a GL is currently overpowering the promise i made to myself as a kid that i would have a true 69' GL.

Thanks to all of you for the comments and feedback, lots of ideas from all different angles and things that i didn't even consider got me thinking, so a big cheers to all , great site this one with lots of knowledgeable friendly folk  and all too willing to help.

The search continues on and thankyou!

I think you made a wise decision.   :2thumbs:

The 68 looks way to nice to turn  into anything else.  I would de-GL it as well and enjoy it for what it is.

You'll find your 69, don't you worry.  It's out there waiting for you.   :yesnod:

Good decision, and you know these things frequently work out that the real dream car turns up not too long after.

yea, what he said.

If I turned that one into a 69, I'd be done bought CrazyC's decals to get rid of the incorrect '01' on the doors.

Yep me too! , the rims aren't right either, they would be changed straight away also, but i have passed on this one this time. Its just not right. Had i the time i would take some of the members great advice on here and de-generalize it back into a cool stock 68' , but sadly this is something i cannot take on right now.

How much was the 68? :scratchchin:

My first 69 Charger got wrecked (don't want to talk about, but I was stupid) and installed a 68 grill!

You could change the name from General Lee to Colonel Lee.  :D  :2thumbs:

Is there really that much price difference between the two models? I figured all gen two were about the same.

:iagree:   Get the 1969 and leave the '68 for what it is  :Twocents:

Hey mate,

Asking price is $22,500 US , if anyone is interested in this i am happy to pass on the details of the person who brought it to my attention. Just PM me. I'm not getting it but that doesn't mean anyone else on here can't have a look to see if it's something they want. The car is in US already i believe.

Cheers
