My buddy just picked up this ride.  I don't know where it came from or any specifics yet.

He was curious about the 999 paint.  I let him know it was on the rare side.

A4 Silver Poly (#2016) is listed as a standard color for the 1970 Challenger.

Is that car's silver a different color than A4?  Otherwise why the 999 code?  :popcrn:

Silver was not a standard color.  EA4silver, FM3pink & FJ6green go were offered on Feb. 20, 1970.  This car was built in January.

EA4 was not generally offered for e bodies.  Read the scrip below the green box.  This was the first link I looked at.  There's several other on Google stating the same.

I googled UI queens and found the link on Wikipedia for Royal Noble Consort of Korean Kings, so I think that is what it means.

I hate iPads or anything apple....
What does it have to do with apples?

Google is very useful to sort out all these shorthand things.

I should have googled first, and here I thought it was the University of Ink in Queens?  ;)

Possibly a tattoo artist's school?

Silver was not a standard color.

The Ditzler chart for 70 Challengers shows A4 as standard.  :scratchchin:

My question: is the color on this car A4? Is it different silver?

That particular chart shows all 1970 standard colors (but not the exact models each color was available on as 'standard')  & some of the 99 / 999 colors from the 1969 model year.

Silver was NOT one of the standard colors available on A, B, or E bodies for the 1970 model year, the exception would be 1970 C-bodies, silver was a standard color for them.

So if you do see EA4 silver on any model other than a C-body the paint code for 1970 would be 999 for it. ( or any other 'special' order paint color)

I have not heard of this Challenger before, was he able to find a broadcast sheet for it yet?

Just 6T9 CHGR

Thanks for clearing that up Barry.  I knew if anyone would know it was you

Regardless that is one sweet ride that seems to have been off the radar.  Great find!

I checked on the other 1970 999 paint Challengers I have heard of so far. Out of ten, seven of them have N95 like the one above, so I have to wonder if a particular California dealership liked cars in 'different' colors. :scratchchin:

Jpentz70

I have a 70 440 r/t car that was originally silver and i saw this post! do you know how many of these were made also if you get a chance check out my video on youtube of my car here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4uBuZ5Y4LU   Unfortunatley i do not have a body tag or broadcast sheet but one of the guys who saw the plate said that 999 was used for the paint was the the EA4 being as my cars door tag says it was built 11-69? thanks for your time

GOTWING

I bet a silver 70 Charger R/T with a black vinyl top & rump stripe would look pretty cool too. :drool5:

Dick Landy had a silver (EA4) 440 4bbl Challenger R/T SE street car with flared front fenders?  Where is it now?

it looks like I have info on 8 "special order paint" 1970 Challengers  + I don't have info on the 2 shown on Hamtramck-Historical or the R/T in the above video
counting Landy's that's 12 cars - at least 8/12 are CA (N95) cars & 7/12 of them are either EA4 "silver metallic" or EA9 "dark gray metallic" (c-body ONLY colors for '70)

a semi-educated guess - Dodge built approximately 190-210 "special order paint" 999 paint code Challengers for the 1970 model year

Alaskan_TA

I am aware of 17 999 paint 1970 Challengers so far. I have a broadcast sheet here waiting to be claimed for one of them.

Jpentz70

First off i want to say thanks SO SO much for all the help guys! I talked to the Hamtramck guys and they didnt find a build sheet for my car but I Found one for a 71 340 car under one of the seats i got as an extra to my car and i reported it to the Hamtramck guys i would just simply freak out if i found the broadcast sheet for my car but i know it is most likely gone forever!!! my partial vin is JS23UOB184XXX! if anyone come across one that is kinda close message me and ill give the rest THANKS GUYS keep the info coming oh and the charger looks fantastic in that color!!

Jpentz70

also real quick just fyi the 1970 R/T challenger i have has a skid plate on the front cross member, the car also has the larger fuel line and the torque boxes at the rear.

6bblgt

all '70 B & E-bodies with 440 4bbl - 440 6bbl - HEMI have the k-frame with a skid plate, the "HEMI" oil pan & 3/8" fuel line and a 1/4" return
