If your car originally came with the road wheels and redlines, would the spare have been the same?

If not, what is it supposed to be - black steel wheel with standard black walls?

(apologize in advance for asking so many stupid questions let couple of days)....

I doubt it wold have come with another road wheel & red-line tire in the trunk...stock steel wheel would be my guess

:iagree:

On a W21 (road wheel) car, the spare would have been a 14x5.5 JK steel wheel, painted black.  The tire would have matched what was on the car elsewhere, so in your example it would be a 14" redline.

Yep.
14" steelie with a redline matched to what size your car originally came with.

Thanks a lot guys - much appreciated

Now all I've got to do is figure out if I want the spare to be a 235 or a 275.   :scratchchin:

A383Wing

if your car has a sure-grip rear end, you will need the same size tire in height that's on the rear now so you don't tear up your clutches in the differential

xs29bb1

I've got 235s in front and 275s in the rear. So the spare???  Not sure if I should get a rear or a front...

A383Wing

the width of the spare makes no difference...but if you have a sure-grip, then you must get a tire the same "height" as the rear tires

I know , a 255 x 60 x15  on a 8 inch wheel wont fit  in  the stock location in the trunk , I  wanted  the same size at all four corners ,  after working that out , went to fit the spare !!  would not fit  !! had to make a new hold down bracket &  move it about 8 inches to the right of the original  :scratchchin:

I used what wheel I wanted in the boot , made an extended hold down bolt just to hold wheel down and to the right , after all it's just to stop it moving around in trunk , almost in a L shape at bottom, wish I had a photo of that to post

That's a cool looking tire wish they made em in 18incher.

Go with the narrower tire. Might get some wierd handling with one fat and one skinny on the front.
If your wheels ain't spinn'n you ain't got no traction.
