Unbelievable on both sides of this story. :icon_smile_angry:  The right thing to do would be to let the kids eat, and settle the matter with the adults.  Don't put the kids in the middle of the conflict.

Let them starve & maybe they'll learn a lesson about how their parents are nothing but lazy & mooching off taxpayers. They don't work hard enough to earn their keep & expect hard working, American patriots to pay their way. They're probably commies or socialists, or worse yet, they might be dirty hippies that protest. Whatever they are, they are likely spending their welfare & unemployment checks on drugs, alcohol, flat screen TV's & ordering online with their free cell phones & don't care if their kids eat.

Unfortunately, these kids probably have hard working parents who either don't qualify or are too proud to take government assistance.  The deadbeats kids get free lunches courtesy of the rest of us.

My boys go to school about 20 miles from there, very sad indeed.  This has happened to one of my boys friend which my boy had the lunch lady put it on our account. His parents just forgot to add to his account.

What's really bad, my six year old eats his lunch every day and wasn't get charged sometimes. The lady messed up and was charging another account. I wonder how often this happens.

I was going to comment on this thread, but you said everything I was going to say perfectly.  ;)

My guess they are old, hemp wearing hippies. Probably from the upper north east.  :D

What I wonder is ----What do the parents of these kids expect to happen when they don't pay the bill. Are they waiting for publicity like this help out. :shruggy:

There are many ways to head off something like this getting to the point that the school has to draw a new line.  (I bet the school has been letting this kind of thing slide for a while and needed to make a move.  It is hard to judge this kind of story cause we all know that there is much we don't know. :Twocents:

School definetly planned to make their point and drive it home to as many as possible.  Pizza Day

What t's me is they took their plate away.  That is just wrong.  No questioning about it.  If there's a problem where the parents didn't pay for lunches, send the kids back home.  That is much better than putting the kid through the embarrassment of having their lunch taken away and pretty much starving until they get home.  If need be, take some rations from the families in Africa and the Middle East and reserve them for our kids.  For the amount of money that we pay to the schools in taxes, this shouldn't happen.

Here's the latest.

"A Utah school cafeteria manager and a district supervisor have been placed on paid leave while officials investigate why lunches were taken from students who owed money on food accounts, a district spokesman said Friday".

Like I said before, my six year old wasn't getting charged for his lunches, someone else was. I didn't find this out until I checked his account.

I say fire them all!

No kid left behind, what a joke, they only starve them instead.

So when is it right to expect people to pay their debts? The US government apparently has no plans to pay back its $17+ trillion debt. Every state government in the union is in debt. About 70% of American households are in debt. Should we just say screw it and forget collecting debts at all? I agree this move against the kids was tactless and could have been handled in a better way but at some point people have to pay what they owe. Don't they?

If it was a free lunch, guess what they wouldn't have owed anything.
