Is there a single source reproducing these or a bunch?

There are few problems in life that cannot be solved with C-4.

From what I understand there is two.
Charger Specialties, and OER (Classic Industries).

Opinions as to which is the better quality one?

JamieZ

I have an OER one which I got from Dante's.  Unit is, technologically speaking, superior to the original.  It uses a dedicated IC for the tach so it has a better response than the stock unit.  The clock is also quartz instead of the electromechanical points.

Unfortunately I had issues with a voltage regulator and smoked one, so I had to purchase 2 (they aren't cheap).  If you just need the clock, that is undamaged but I do not know how easy they would be to remove/swap into a stock unit.

RTE also makes a replacement board you can swap into a stock tach.  It makes it more accurate/adjustable, but requires some electrical work.  I tried the replacing the stock board in mine, but still wasn't happy with the results so I went with the replacement unit.

Can't say I'm too pleased with the Charger Specialties version. I bought it years ago new in the box from a private individual, so it's not like I could have returned it.
The housing is plastic. The font/character spacing is also incorrect.
I read warnings after purchase about the clock not working after a while, it's true. Mine stopped after about 6 months, I hear the clock internals are plastic also.
The second hand also fell off, which I was able to reattach.

RedLine was able to match the font on it when I had the gauge faces done in white.
The tach works nice, though.
I may just yank it out again for a 3rd time & have the clock re-done someday.
I wouldn't buy another one.

Whats the OER one made out of Jamie?

OER replacement is metal.  Fonts aren't a complete match...I was originally considering swapping the internals but after frying one tach I was just happy to get one working.

Original Left, OER right.  (Note they are partially disassembled which is why the backs are out of alignment)

I have the Charger Specialties version  clock/tach and the clock stopped working too. Just bought a new quarts movement to fit into it.

Was that kit easy to install?

They say it is just bought it last night.

Well, you'll have to put up a step-by-step how-to thread on it! I'd read it for sure.   :2thumbs:

Those fonts look nearly identical.
The Charger Specialties tach is even close!  :rotz:

They are close, but the lettering on the oer is thicker, you can really notice it on the "RPM X 100" .  When they aren't side by side its not very noticeable.

Ghoste

The "RPM X 100" was what I noticed quickly but in a car, no I don't think many would catch it.

JB400

The 6, 8, and 9 make it real noticeable.

Ghoste

Yeah, all on the clock face.  I suppose if it bothered one bad enough you get that part refaced but once in the car would it matter? :shruggy:

As I recollect it was not too bad. I believe you do need to solder a few connections, though. The clock works perfectly now, and has for the last 4 years.  :2thumbs:
