Chip Foose - love him, hate him, couldn't care less?

Lord Warlock

Was an interesting show to watch, could tell Foose had talent, but I didn't put him on par with Boyd Coddington who built some truly wonderful classics.  Always thought the premise of stealing a classic and making the owner go thru the stress of that was excessive, and then add on top of it that they make you pay for the work via taxes is a bit much for me.  About the only thing i liked was seeing a car get rebuilt in a week compared to the 8 years its taken me to get mine somewhat back in shape.  Then again i don't have to pay any taxes on the car since i wouldn't declare it on taxes anyway, unless i sold it.

All in all, can live without the show, watched it a few times and eventually started switching channels when it was on.

I was watching one show where Foose wanted to change a 4 speed car into an automatic. His girlfriend or wife walked in and said "NO, her man loved the 4 speed". Foose gave the woman a funny look like she was crazy. That is when I knew that his name should not be Foose it should be FOOL.

heh, interesting I have watched 4 seasons now on netflix and dont remmeber that scene unless its a new one or something.  I know he put in a manual where an auto was because the woman said he wanted a manual shift.

I watch the show all of the time. Love the show. No fighting & Arguing Drama. Just everyone working together to meet a deadline. He is a true craftsman & has built some top of the line caliber of cars even off of the show but his style is not my taste. The whole two tone thing belongs on old 30's & 40's street rods to me. Most of these musclecars they do just do not look right once the show is done with them. Very few of these cars, I have said I would drive that. Right after I fixed several things I don't like. If my Charger was to be overhauled, I would be mad at most of the things they do to the cars. It would have to be "ALL" black & if it had larger than normal wheels I would have to settle with the 17" Magnum 500 style road wheels & a hidden (factory looking) stero system. Then I could get alittle excited. So as a single Dad raising three kids, Chip if you read these forums you can come steal my car & help restore it so my kids can enjoy it someday too....... LOL

Very talented guy just like his old man.  I don't care for most of the designs but tastes differ.  Don't care too much about the show itself.  I've been pampered with zero drama and product placement shows like Wheeler Dealer.  Much more enjoyable to watch, but Ed is no Foose either.   :icon_smile_big:

Chip is a talented guy non the less. I'd be working with him right now if I could bring my kids with me.
Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

Eh...its hit or miss. I liked the Green and Black Challenger. The orange/black, not so much. Now the 67 Charger they did  :2thumbs:

I too, am not a fan of big wheels/tires. Put some different wheels that Charger would look great! Maybe some Torque Thrust with some fat BFG's (with the white letters turned in, of course).

Jason

but the white letters is part of the "package "   :yesnod:

and I to watch the show if you can't tell, i'll watch just about anything auto related (for a while ) but love the way they actually show work being done on the car ,  used to like  wrecks to riches too   :yesnod:

looks like most agree his is talented and very few likes his designs. What a shame all that good body work is covered with crap looking paint schemes, I would love to see an episode where  the owner requests a re paint

1974dodgecharger

I can see why foose wanted it auto it was because he called in, bowler the automatic tranny specilist from Illionois and he drove it straight from there to vegas or L.A?  So when he got there they switched it up on the bowler employee and then he was forced to fix the 4 speed in the car originally.

He did not have an engine in the car to begin with so it was a non matching car anyways.  What they did to the car was great since there was no engine at all it was a complete rust bucket and the guy who owned it tried to act lke he had a gold mine of some sorts.

Either way the car was saved by Foose because this guy was one of those guys that saids, "I will restore this one day' and he never gets to it.

I don't know if the kid with the 67 was ever that thrilled with it to begin with was he?  I hated the shaker scoop on that car.  I didn't mind the rest but I hated the Shaker.

I liked the whole package, Shaker & all. There was a '67 Coronet convertible at Woodward this year with a Shaker, the car was also featured in a recent issue of MCG. Nicely done.

I remember thinking the kid with the Charger was a little clueless about the car to begin with.  :yesnod:

That was my favorite car that he did on the show (minus the shaker). That 67' came out really nice. I would still prefer it all silver or all black.

I think the guy is unbelievably talented no matter if you like his designs or not. One of the nicest "famous" people I have ever met; had the family down at disneyland about 6 years ago and by day 3 I couldnt stand any more crowds. The family went back to the park, and I took the rental car and headed for Fooses shop in Huntington beach. I got lucky as he was there that day (which I guess is fairly rare) and so was his dad; they were putting the finishing touches on a rat rod they had done that was going to be photographed for a car mag that day.
Anyway, the girl introduces me to him and he sees by my shirt that I am a firefighter from Canada; he spent nearly an hour personally giving me a tour of the shop and projects they had going on (I remember they had Tim Mcgraws Olds 442 that Faith Hill was having done for him as a surprise) and when it was noon he asked if I wanted to have lunch with the "guys". I said sure and I wound up sitting outside his shop with a bunch of them including him and his dad eating subs from the gut bomb place next door. Anyway, I wound up trading him one of my fire shirts for a foose shirt, and he personalized a poster of the drawing he did for the Coronet episode (I was just finishing a restoration on a 66 Coronet 500 just like my Dads). He left me with making me promise to send him pictures of the finished product; he gave me one of his email addresses and told me not to send them to his address off his websites.
I did eventually send him the pictures and he was the one who replied for sure as he remembered the guy from the "CFD" who had lunch with him and his boys.

Anyway, a real down to earth super guy; weather his designs wind up being timeless or dated will remain to be seen.

That I believe easily as well.  I think he really is one of the guys and if he had his way more time would be spent getting dirty in the shop.

so it seems everyone agrees he's a real nice guy with a mile of talent that just keeps painting two tone cars despite the fact most were over them years ago  :yesnod:

I'm OLD.... but IMO.... BIG WHEELS are about the stupidest looking SH*t on these large wheel-well old Cars that I've ever seen !
And the ride...
with BIG WHEELS on these old suspensions ? WTF ? Bunch 'O Bobble-Heads !

That said... I think as many Morons as possible.... should keep right on putting BIG WHEELS on these Old Cars !
More fun Blowing their Doors off at Stoplights with an Old School  29 X 12.5 X 15" Tire / Wheel Combo for about 1/4 the Money that actually HOOKS !

I agree.  I've drove several cars where all they did was bolt on large wheels.  The ride is rougher than a cob.  If you're doing the big wheels, put on the appropriate suspension system.
