Watched the show last night.   Pretty decent overall.

The car chase scene was probably one of the best I've seen.  Realism.  Great Sound.  Tom did all the driving.

It's a Chevy SS....not a Mopar......but nice friggin' car.

Watch the whole clip.....it has a couple of neat parts.

yup, decent movie they are making another, hopefully another car chase also...

yeah loved they showed the hood when he first got the car comng down the hill the cowl induction.... :2thumbs:

Fun little fact, the part where the Chevelle stalls was not planned! Tom stalled the car and the director kept it in the movie for the added realism.

QuoteTom did all the driving.

Not bloody likely, no matter what the star or director might have claimed he did.

The guy could be a good driver but the insurance companies frown on stars doing that kind of stuff any time they don't have to.  The cost of a delay in filming because of an accident is too high.

Spielberg used to let Harrison Ford do a lot of risky stuff on "Indiana Jones" in the 1980s.  But they had to delay shooting on "Temple of Doom" for a month when they pushed too far and Ford ended up with an injury.

Oh yeah accidents still happen.  Especially when stars are also a producer/director/etc with more clout, like Tom Cruise or Sly Stallone these days.

But a star doing an entire car chase is pretty unfeasible just for logistics alone.

Usually 90% of a chase will be done by a second film crew.  The star actors/directors/etc will be doing another part of the movie at the same time, maybe in another location entirely.  They will figure out which parts of the chase absolutely NEED the lead actors' faces and call them over just for those days.

Even according to the Stunt drivers, Tom Cruise did all his own driving.

Cruise is well known for doing his own stunts. The part in Mission Impossible where Tom's character climbs the highest building in the world? Tom did that himself.

Same with Mission Impossible 2, where his character did rock climbing on a cliff. That was Tom.

I think the rock climbing he did was only 3ft off the ground actually and the rest was digitally put in there to make it look like he was really high.  As for the dubai scene on the building that couldnt be faked he did yes get up there and do some of the scenes.

Try 600 feet :D

Quote"We filmed at Dead Horse Point in Utah. Ron Kauk was the climbing stunt double. He and Tom got to be quite good friends during the week of shooting. Tom has a strong interest in climbing and is really fun to work with: tough, athletic, coordinated and aggressive. Ron worked with him to get him comfortable on the rock and so far off the deck - we were working at the top of the cliff, which is about 600 feet to the talus slope and another 2,000 feet to the river."

"Tom did all of the climbing except the slip off the overhang - his main stunt double, Keith Campbell, did that stunt.

"Tom was on either cables or ropes at all times which were then CGI removed to make it appear he was soloing. We kept a minimum breaking strength of 8,000lb on all his equipment. The crew were tied in any time they came within 15ft of the edge. Cameras were on boom arms from above, helicopter mounted and I shot from on rope next to Tom.

I'm willing to believe Tom did 100% of the driving stuff being shot while he was present on the set of the chase scene.  He does a lot more stunts than many other lead actors.

But for him to do ALL the driving . . . that would add millions of dollars to the production cost just to extend the shoot long enough, never mind trying to insure it.  Those chases take several weeks to shoot and he can't do two things at once.  No matter how well the guy can drive it's just not very practical.

As the Stunt drivers and director stated, "Tom did ALL the STUNT driving of the Chevelle". So take from that what you will on what it means.  :shruggy:

Well, whoever drove the cars, it was a cool chase.  Well filmed and more realistic than usual.

'70 Chevelles are so common and repro'd that I have a hard time getting too worked up over the loss of a few for this purpose.

very cool driving either way , but how can such a cool guy be such a dick  :shruggy:

It wasn't bad driving, but it wasn't great either.  For this reason, I can honestly believe that Tom did all the driving.  First off, leaving the hospital.  All he did was back up straight.  If it was a professional doing it, he would have set the car up to be facing the direction he wanted to go, in this case, a reverse 90.  The side to side slamming on the bridge wasn't really up to full par either.  At one point, he locked the rear wheels up, but didn't do anything to make it necessary.  (I'm not really a fan of the side to side banging.  A pit maneuver would have a better outcome.  Side to side banging is just a waste of sheet metal imo.)  The 90* turns wasn't that real woopy either.  Done right, he would have done some throttle control and drifted around the corner some.  He just hit the brakes and turned, then after coming close to a stop to recover, he took off again.  The last turn was better, so he was getting the hang of it some near the end.  This explains why he stalls the car.  I think if he was in an automatic, he could have done a better job.

Like I said, it was good, but not great.  The ending was a nice though :2thumbs:

I thought it was kind of a boring chase...but, that's just me...

Most of the "faults" you pointed out I think make the chase more realistic.    :2thumbs:

The character isn't a professional driver, he's a military trained investigator.  He gets into a car he's never driven before, and does as well as he can with what sounds like a ton of horsepower/torque.  He's amped up on getting away and fishtailed the crap out of it and banged into a bunch of stuff.   Sounds about right to me!

I like Cruise's movies, and don't know him personally.

You can't believe most of the crap you read.......and if I was made of money and could be recognized by most likely at least 20% of Earth's population, I'd probably be 'eccentric', too.   That kind of fame can change a guy, I'd imagine.   :scratchchin:

Mike DC

I agree, the amateur look of the driving made it more realistic.
