Electronic ignition breaker plate into a Prestolite

Hey gang..

I purchased a MSD 6AL unit with tach adaptor for the hemi Friday. I would like to maintain, as close as possible, the OEM look, hence I would like to keep the Prestolite dual-point I have. I know the 6AL will work perfectly fine with the points acting as a trigger (of course, disconnecting the 2nd point set in the distributor). I am curious though on the longevity of the points. It is my understanding from feedback from members on another thread that the points only act as a signal trigger to the box and really carry no load as they do under normal points functionality. But, I also know the electronic design with the reluctor and pick-up is more dependable over the long haul. It is my understanding that the diameter of the mounting plates of the points on the Prestolite and the Chrysler electronic are the same. I was thinking of swapping out plates along with changing the points cam with the reluctor...... Anyone do this before? I have a couple of Prestolites I can experiment with.

I swapped Mopar electronic breaker plates into Studebaker Prestolite distributors so I imagine the same can be done to Mopar Prestolite units.

The base plate that attaches to the distributor body is retained and only the movable plate is changed. Turn both over and you'll see a 3-legged flat retainer spring on the movable plate pivot shaft. Once the plates are swapped the vacuum advance attach point may need to be tweaked.

The reluctor mounting shaft is a straight swap but the reluctor phasing may need to be tweaked also by filing a new keyway.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
