single car garage pics?

with everyone having pics of their shops and 2 car garages, looking at my budget for a house looks like ill end up with a single car garage but with room in back yard to do a additional shop at a later time.

so can I get those of you that have a single car garage (preferably with a B Body in it) only to post some pics? dirty, clean, what ever you have, I'm (un)lucky enough to where this will be my first house and haven't had the "opportunity" to collect years of random parts yet. I'm just wanting to see what kind of room ill be dealing with, knowing to comfortably work on my car it'll have to be rolled out to driveway.

THANKS GUYS!

I wish mine were like that.  I assume those are full size cars.

It will depend on the size of the garage.  Here are some pics of an early 1950's garage (it may be standard). (front, both sides, back, and with various strings hanging in to guide it in when parking).  The door opening clears the sides by a few inches and a wrong move will end up with a scraped side.

Can just fit my butt between the door and side in with the window unrolled and the car parked as it is.  It is a little easier if I pull it 4 inches closer to the passenger side wall.  Don't really fit around either the back or the front of the car without the garage door open.

Ideas to address this were posted at http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,94373.msg1075435.html#msg1075435  (the practical one was to move to a house with a bigger garage) - I cannot right now - so I opted for home made wheel guides, tennis balls hanging from the ceiling and garage door handles, and 2x4s along the side to make sure I hit them if I go off angle.  They are the things in the red boxes. I really need 4x4 for the side guides.

Good luck.

Hang in there ChargerD100!

We bought a house last summer and during the spring when we were looking I was super depressed a number of times regarding the garage situation.  Just stick with it and make your garage needs be known!  We looked at a bunch of small, dark, wet garages and I finally put together this PDF for my realtor since he had no idea what a Charger looked like or the size of it.  He was skeptical that we would get anything larger than a 1-car in our price range.  Feel free to use this.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/117785/Charger%20garage.PDF

The last page shows 3 examples we talked about with the realtor in the case of buying a house without a garage at a lower price and I would build this later, so he had an idea of how big a vacant area on the lot we would need.  Pricing things out they were in the realm of $40k, $60k, $120k for those examples pictured (this is in Seattle).

The best part is just holding out and sticking to my guns I got a 20'x30' detatched garage on a concrete alley.  This also has a 12'x15' bump-out on the side that we put yard tools and bikes in so the main garage is 100% mine!  And it has 100amp service, 220v outlet, plumbed for air tools, insulated, utility sink, and a urinal.  Mancave!  And the house is just what we wanted as well.

Now I just need a Charger to work on!

Keep looking, your dream garage is out there.

^^^I'd kill just to be able to rent something like that out here...

Excellent pdf on garages.   :2thumbs:  I think mine (pictured above) qualifies as narrow drive, narrow door, short, narrow garage.  It is practically impossible to work in and if it can be avoided as the others suggest, hang in and do so.  If not, it can work.

I the PRK we have a company called TuffShed. They build simple modular garden sheds up to 3 car garages. In 2000 we had a 14x24 "shed" built in the backyard.........4 in 12 gable roof with eaves. Granted our place is semi rural on 1/3 acre so we had room. The building cost was $10000 including the slab foundation. Today it's probably $15k+. It was my woodworking shop for several years until we bought our Charger. Then it was the car barn during its restoration.
My point is it provided plenty of room to park and work on the car. The back wall has inexpensive wall to wall base and upper cabinets from HomeyD. In one corner of the front wall (8' garage door) lives an upright 33 gal compressor and the other corner has my 3 tier roll-a-round. There are some pictures of it in my resto thread.

You are already looking ahead and being patient. Keep looking at homes, the one that has your basic "must haves" is out there.

Myk, go easy on yourself man. Unlike many, you have a charger. Good things are coming your way as well.

Homerr that is a great packet you put together, here are a few pics of the current house I am looking at, my idea is to frame in a rear garage door to make the garage pull through to be able to pull around back and have a shop built at a later time

That's a nice big lot. The drive through garage is a great idea. A nice dedicate car shop and an awesome backyard retreat is all there!
What's the price point on the house? 3 bd/2 ba? Pardon if I'm too nosy.

Don't worry, you're not the only hardcore nerd around here. I love the show. (It's bigger on the inside!)

Heres mine!! It was touching fixing the car up, I lived under the car for a whole year I had all the interior gutted out, suspension out, all 4 tires off, and to get in the garage I had to squeeze in on the sides and/or crawl under the car to get to places and get the tools on the other end etc...This is working in 110 PLUS DEGREE WEATHER HERE IN ARIZONA IN HOT SUMMER MONTHS!!!

What kind of horn you got there John?Is it just not a dukes of hazzard type?

The only picture i have with the garage is this!It was really difficult to find a garage that the charger fitted in but this was 9 meters from the houses so you could guess the noise she made when started her up!Barely enough space to get in and out!

yeah its the dukes horn, I removed it and now its sitting in my house.  I Plan to put it back in, but off to the side to not distrupt the air flow to the rad.  :icon_smile_big:

I looked up your setbacks: 20' front, 5' side, and 15' rear; max. lot coverage is 40%.  The rear would probably apply to the east and northeast lines to the large neighbor property and the drainage canal sides.  Probably still enough room to build what you'd like.  The lot coverage is not an issue.  (I draw houses for a living.)

From humble environs emerge incredible machines. Back in the day these were the garages where hot rods were born. I'm only 60 but this was similar to the first garage I ever owned. Loved it too!
