I was just reading through the new entries on Carsinbarns.com and came across something interesting. There's a post about a 1972 GTX 440-6 Pack 4 speed somebody found. Most of us know that a factory 1972 440-6 Pack GTX is very very rare so that's what makes this interesting.


"Sad story, happy ending. Here's some pictures of a 1972 GTX that was totaled back in the early '90s. 440 six pack, 4-speed. The car was wrecked then put behind a silo until recently. A clone of the car was built, and any remaining parts were re-used. Also a picture of the clone car. Even though, note now a '71 grille was used on the clone car.""



I wonder what they mean by "remaining parts" and what exactly their term of "clone car" is and where the rest of the original car is.......

If it is a true '72 6 pack, one of a handful right? The guy should have used the whole car.
Or sold it to someone able to fix the original body.

Circa 1993 a buddy took me over to his friends house near Hockinson, Wa.  The older brother there had a triple-black 71-2 Charger/RR/GTX (not 100% sure which anymore, but if I was betting money it would be on a Charger R/T) that was almost in that exact condition.  I was just getting in to the hobby then and they wanted to show off the brother's car.  

So the car was under a tarp in the large lawn area down from the house.  The friend's brother comes out and takes the tarp off and we check it out.  It was caved in on the passenger side where it hit the tree/lightpole.  Every panel on the car was messed up, but the paint was still holding up okay.  He opens the hood (it didn't close really) and there is a pretty orange 440 and air cleaner.  Then he jumps in and starts it up!  "Gotta move it around so it don't seize up!  Besides, gotta mow under the car regularly."  Apparently it had been in this condition for a few years at that point.

Recently I've looked on Google Earth a couple of times but haven't been able to find the place again.

Could of been originally an automatic? I guess we will not know. Regardless, smells like a fishy rebody to me....

Probably not, through all of know Mopar 1972 440-6 history, there is no mention of this car.  Even in myth and legend.  And trust me, I have a stack of paperwork here, as does a few other individuals who have researched these things. 

There are the 3 known, documented 72 V-Code cars, two Chargers, one Road Runner/GTX.  There is a VIN to a blue 72 Road Runner that was in an old club flyer from the 80's and one other red 72 Charger that most believe was just a misprint on the vin tag, because the fender tag had the proper U-Code.  There was thought to be another one, the famous magazine car.  But that was found to be a 71 car, dressed up like a 72.

I agree with Devil.  Is it possible?  Yes, just barely and extremely unlikely.

That wrecked body has a Satellite Sebring Plus paint scheme on it and a SSP would use the 71 style grill in 71-2.
The biggest engine in a SSP was a 400 so me thinks B.S. meter is pegged!!!!!
