The X boss. He had bought a clean 1988 Mercury Cougar (fox chassis). 5.0 AOD.
New guy Brian starts working there and has a uber clean 3rd gen Z/28. He's proud of it and after work decides he'll show it to us.
I look it over thinking typical SBC [355] auto. Nothing too special, but WTF? He loves it so who am I to bust his Stones right?

Boss begins to 'modify' this Cougar. ( has TWO fox body Mustang, yet wants to be different and drag race this car...ok whatever)
first thing he does is take a NICE street car that the A/C still works on, and dump a worn out nitrous 302 motor in it.
ok...whatever.
then, begins to cut out the entire front core support in favor of rigging in an import radiator as he claims IT'S lighter?
Ok...
when he finally finishes ruining this nice ride, it has half a dash, one seat, no door panels, no carpet, no bumper behind the fascia, and holes drilled in the front struts.

Well, he comes in one morning talking bout going to the track and claims he ran a 8.42 @84 mph.
ok, I'll buy that.
over the next year, all Brian and I heard about was how quick 'The Cougar' was getting.
the final B.S. story was an 8.20...

I caught Brian work in on a dash job and just asked him what his car ran. "8.27 @92 mph, with the A/C on"...
He coulda shut the boss down anytime, but didn't.  I asked why not?
He stated "No matter what I say, he's always gonna have something to say better"...

Once Brian and I surprised him by showing up at the track. The fastest we ever saw tg e car go was an 8.39 @ 89 mph.
no wheels up launches like he claimed...
now, the boss knew better when it came to my Dart, so I kinda began to help Brian a little. This is why you'll see "F&P Performance" on FB as a joke every now and then.
boss told people after Brian quit, that "all he had was a dumptruck cam in a Camaro"...
Brian has been upgrading ever since. HIGHLY PORTED Vortec heads, preform carb, 1.6 roller rockers, stall, aftermarket axles, etc.
we have been testing and tuning,  having a ball I might add. We finally got a FULL STREET CAR running 7.45 @ 99 mph.
on the motor.

There will be a callout come spring time. $500.00 on his hood and a grudge match right in front of all the bosses buddies.
we intend to blow his ass right I off the track.
sometimes, people have to learn the best lessons the hard way.

As someone like me who knows a very little about engines 300 sounds a bit less what i would have thought!But than people talk about their hp at the engines and not at the wheels.

So do you know what she does at the engine?Would be intersting,for me,to know how many ponies she is "loosing".

When the factory stated their hp was it at the engine or at the wheels?My guess would be at the engine

Up until 72, that factory rated it at the engine without accessories like fans and so forth and stated it in gross horsepower.  About the maximum way to do it really.

going a bit off track now , although sort of the same age group now ! I use to have all the time in the world  to show / explain / help /  teach ,  anyone  with , mechanical  / body & paint etc  ,  in or out of work  , with the new  younger guys  or trainees , & their buddies etc that started   ,  etc  20 years ago they were all eager to learn & listen , would respect what you know & soak up the information ,  now through social media  , they are all experts from reading  another guys bullshit they have put on line  , quoting words & info they have seen of fast & furious , FFS  & cause the internet has been around as long they can remember & their world revolves around it  , it must be all true  ,

I need a rebuilt carb or plan to go 850.  Its a 383 which is a strong one a 440 mod went up there did 340hp but with 450ft lbs.

I stopped at 5500 rpms..did not want to go higher even though I been told 6500 is max.

I feel the real problem is the "majority" tends to come into a thread on FB and repeat what others who 'sound' correct say.
I feel this is why many don't mess with FB, and was what I was trying to get across to Ghosts in the other thread.

The real power in a debate doesn't come from being 'right' it comes from putting out misinformation and getting enough people to believe/support it.

I was told that long ago and it does make sense. Better to let the ignorant stay ignorant. I friend here in town bought a brand new Ford... Focus I think. Says it makes some big power number that I dont remember. He added a cold air kit and a tune and claimed an even more ridiculous power number. All I said was..... I want a ride in it.

This same guy had a 2007 Corvette. Much faster car than my 72 Charger of course. One night on the way home from cruise night we get next to each other at a light. We leave the light, I launched the 300 HP charger and leave him standing, he was just burning the tires on the Vette. He passed me of course, but was very upset about being left at the light by a low power old muscle car wanna be. I like to just smile about it. No need to say anything.
