Why Are 70's Considered Lesser Than 68/69's ?

Actually the 70 is the best of the 68-70 series for me. I love the grille, R/T door scoops, high back buckets and pistol grip shifter. If I couldn't find a suitable 71 R/T a 70 R/T would be a good second choice.

68 & 69 guys sure spend alot of time pontificating on why they believe they are the best thing since sliced bread. 66-74...they are all nice.

Don't get me wrong love this 2 nd gen body style, there's a lot of parts to my 70 I love , 6 pack, gator grain roof option , just waiting for that to be repopped in white, high impact colour paint , I like the 70's dash pad better than the 68 , the big bumble bee single tail stripe, I like the door scoops with the rt recessed in ,

Just saw a gorgeous 70 resto mod , grey ,tucked in bumpers , lots of mods on ebay , wish I knew how paste copy shit like that, probably better I spend the time on the car heh

Nah, Your Charger needs the chrome...... All Chargers need the chrome. Other wise it just looks like that whole 80's Pro Street monochromatic paint schemes where they just taped of the windows & sprayed everything one color. (well, not quite ). But that is how it looks.

You're probably right. I am probably being seduced by the fact that silver chargers are the sexiest chargers.

I'd go a step further and make the front bumper part of the fenders and valance.  ie weld the sucker! 

I could customize a 70 because I don't feel the same about the interior as I do the 68 and 69's.  The high buckets may have been the better seats but they don't look better in those cars.  Not a huge fan of the one piece taillights either.  Still, serious nitpicking here, it still is one hell of a cool car.

They don't have one piece tail lights. They have an aluminum finish panel to which I am guessing that you are referring. Love the 70's the most, lots of one year pieces that are super cool.

I would guess the poster, Dino's reply #86 is referring to the one long red left tail light piece and the one long red right tail light piece as his not so favored one piece tail lights.

70's are a transitional year. After booming sales the market was changing, you'd had to been there to understand. They knew what the 3rd gen was looking like and if you have ever compared the 69-70-71 side by side you can see the front end evolving. 

I never noticed the similarities until this pic of my '70 and my old '72.

i think i read somewhere that the 69 charger was designed in 67

I read that Chrysler was a copier and not an innovator. It would sit back and wait to see what ford and Gm would release then improve on the designs. 2 examples I notice is the C pillars of the 66 Pontiac Le Mans is similar to 2nd gen chargers. The front of the 68 Le Mans is similar to the 68 charger minus the nose cone. The same article also said that Pontiac was an innovator in styling. It invented the coke bottle look in 1964.

There was a three to five year lead time then.  Chrysler did concentrate on engineering more than styling and after a couple of bad experiences (the Airflow and the 62 models) they were conservative when it came to bold styling decisions.  I don't thinkit would be fair to say they literally waited to see what sold and then improved it but there was a very careful attitude at work.  They simply didn't have the budget to survive bad risks that GM did.

Yeah, they went from bad to bad there but I think the 62 was supposed to be all new and exciting so it became a bigger disappointment for that reason.

I like all the 68 69 and 70 Chargers. actually the 69 Grille is my least favorite because of the center divider. I like the loop around bumpers on the 71 71 RR as well.

I couldn't own a 69 , its 68 or 70 only , the divider just kills it stone dead for me. There, I've said it, cue burning torches and angry mob townsfolk Simpsons   
Hideaway headlight Gen III's also get the tick.
