I think I remembered a few members looking for keys for their fuel locks? My old school hardware store has some and they are even stamped "FUEL". I just checked mine to my original lock and fit is perfect.
Let me know if you want one my cost is 2.14 each and what ever to mail.  :scratchchin:

An old school hardware store?  I haven't seen one of those for a long time now. It's cool that you found the keys, and nice to offer them to folks here.

Pure luck that the rep. for his key section was there, his display is from the 60's and he was looking all over trying to match. The rep. walked up and said here ya go. They all have a nice aged brass patina.  :2thumbs: Home Depot and Walmart just stare at me with my 70 Charger keys.....  :shruggy:  Buy the way that price would include cutting, (If ya wanted.) he had no idea what to charge without cutting!

Cool find. Wish I could use them but I have a repro locking cap. Although my car must have come with one since it came with the funky flip top cap.

My locking fuel "cap" keys say GAS on them which I thought was correct for 69.  :scratchchin:

What you can get repro locking fuel caps ? Where guys, been lookin looking for ages thinking I could only get an original , and when they do come up $$$$

Lord Warlock

the locking gas cap was an individual option, it'd be listed on your build sheet if it came with one.  Mine did.  As much as i'd like a key for it, don't know what good it would do if I can't figure out how to cut it properly, as i lost the only original key for mine.  Held on to it for 30 years and tossed it thinking it was the old key to a padlock.  Not many people ordered the locking gas caps, matter of fact I never saw anyone else that had one except mine and that included plenty of flip top gas caps on chargers and cudas.

I'll definitely buy another lock, just not sure when, last ones i found were like 85.00 or more. And noone is gonna steal my gas anymore, too hard to get to.

Um.... Don't throw out that locking gas cap. At a bare minimum you could take the key and the cylinder to a locksmith and they could cut it for you.

Cutting a key for a lock that you have the cylinder for is remarkably easy.  Mine is coded for it on the build sheet and has the original one.

Yes, but the keys are different.  They went up in price a little too.  $69, but still better than $100-200 for nos.  I just want to make sure nobody drops something in the tank.

Had one on a 69 years ago and have one NOS one sitting here in front of me that will go on the black car.  I don`t worry about theft or sabotage I just think it`s cool.  :shruggy:

Dino

Part of me wants to buy the locking cap and part of me says I'm at the gas station every damn week spending way too much time trickling in the last few gallons and it's just more hassle!

Now if I can fix that 2nd gen fuel fountain problem, I may change my mind.

Ghoste

It's about an additional 7 seconds of hassle. ;)

Im staring out the window at Snow, Fog and frost in the trees. Wishing that I could waste some more time with a gas lock.... :icon_smile_cool:

I had one on a 70 Charger that I bought over 18 years ago. Didn't work that great so I tossed it. MAN WAS I STUPID!!!

I had no idea what I was holding until I started looking for another one to buy.

IM SO READY TO DRIVE MY CAR!!!!!

BROCK

Are the locking gas caps for 69 & older just a locking plug that goes under the
fliptop like on a 70?  My 70 was optioned with it according to the build sheet,
so I bought an NOS unit before they got expensive.  But, really, I've had the
car since 83 & drove it for many years without ever knowing it was missing.  I
think most were either discarded or lost back in the day :shruggy:

If I remember, the lock portion is the same for all 2nd Gen Chargers & 2nd Gen Barracuda's.....it goes in the top of the tube under the flip top cap

I have two locks in a drawer with out keys. Are key blanks available or is it something you are lucky to find. My car isn't on the road yet and I haven't decided if I should try to use them.

Ghoste

A good locksmith should be able to help you.

b5blue

I picked up some for others who PMed me, 2 left on his display and they are not stamped FUEL.  :scratchchin:

Ghoste

IIRC, the key blanks themselves had a common fitment with some Briggs and Stratton application?

b5blue

Their fitment # is B52 if that is any help.  :shruggy: The hardware guy was looking at golf cart keys till the key rep. walked over.  This new set he made for me fit better than the key my lock came with, it's a bit too long. I was asked to post a pic, I'll do that soon.
