Says it's a replacment block because of no vin #. I thaught the vin stamp didn't start until 69, so could be original?

Depends on the date on the block. All blocks were "supposed " to have the vin # on them starting 1/1/68. so if the block was dated after that it would be considered a factory warranty block.

Here we are with another fine looking project and there are many I'm sure that would like to take it on but the decision of go or no go is price.

This looks much like what most of us hope to find but when we do--- lack of finances usually get in the way.

I wonder how many out there would borrow from their grandmothers account if the price was 15K. And if they did so would it be so they could sell it  for 40K?     And would they pay back grandma?

We are looking at the market setting the prices?   

What I never did back in the day was save money in an account that was for the deal that moved me when it came up. Missed many.

I just looked back at the add and read that the radiator support and trunk lip number are the same but don't match the vin.

What does this mean?----The vin on the dash?    Is this not important??$$$$

In '68 body stamps do not match vin.
I think they used the S.P.D. or some such.

Yes, in 68 the body stamps should match the order # on the fender tag. The only way to tie the fender tag and body to the VIN is by having the broadcast sheet which has both.

I talked with the seller & besides the engine numbers not matching the tranny doesn't either. I have a feeling that this car was bought as an empty body & parts were cobbled together to make it more complete. While my car was completely disassembled and the body was painted when I bought it, it was very much original & complete. This car is not & would be much harder to put back together. Knowing what it cost me to put my car back together, I'd say what the current bid is right now is top dollar.

I noticed the interior being the wrong color as you mentioned above.  

What I don't understand is why they (or whoever owned the car before them) went through the trouble of paint and body work while leaving the underside the way it is... and then why put stripes on it that aren't supposed to be there?

I had a friend check out the car today & send me a bunch of pictures. This car is totally misrepresented!!! Just as I thought; it's a body with a whole bunch of junk parts from other cars thrown in. The dash pod is from a 69. The shifter & trans crossmember are from an E body, the heater box is from an a/c car, flex plate from a 383-440. The steering wheel is all rust & there are scratches & evidence of bad bodywork all over the place just like this....










The car is up to 42,300.00 right now & whoever buys it is going to be very bummed out when they see it in person.

Figured they could make something dumping it now vs putting a ton of cash into it and rolling the dice on a profit later.

So, the buyer will be "all in" for about 160-grand after making it right... at least he can say he's got a Hemi
