what did make thermoquads were called "thermobogs"

I know they use to have some empty space when giving a violent WOT and maybe that's the reason for the "name"... but what it was the reason for that?

not having problems with mine ( I have not driven my car in 8 months now ) but a similar problem on another car

That nickname has been given to every Carb known to man that isn't set up right and has a stumble upon WOT..
"Quadrabog"
Holley "double bog"
Carter "AF Bog"
"Edelbog"
Etc......

ok, but what is the reason for the "bog"?

I know, not set it right, but what could fail? lack of gas? air ?

Any number of things really from poor float setting to accelerator pump set wrong or secondaries opening to soon.  Could be something not related to the carb as well.

You can'flood' and engine with too much air just as easily and as too much fuel....
Most times thr quick bog us a lean progression into main metering circuit.
A long bog when stomped, usually means rich conditions.

Edel-bog...I like that one...

Carbs with adjustable secondary air doors (TQ, AVS) are particularly susceptible to bog. WOT bog from too much air is more likely than from too much fuel.

IMHO, the TQ deserves its "Thermobog" name because of the big difference in primary/secondary bore size.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Guess I was lucky with my thermoquad. My 750 Holley throttle plates wore out and a friend gave me a thermoquad. Bough the need adapter plate and I really enjoyed it.

While it lacked the top end of the 750 Holley, bottom end was much crisper! Never had a bog problem. Could make the tires protest on a 25 MPH roll.  :coolgleamA:

Because they are such a pita to set up many had a nasty bog.  My Edelbrock had one too but nothing like the thermoquad.  Until I set it up properly that is, now it's a screamer with no bog at all.  The last time I backed out of the garage it was spinning its tires.  It never did that with the eddy!
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
