Wow, it's amazing to me that there is still so much undiscovered and fascinating bits of auto history like this out there.

Yeah, no kidding huh?  I'm really curious what the purpose of this thing was.

Mytur Binsdirti

I guess that what you get when you have a couple spare six pack bowls, air grabber flappers and some good drugs.

Ghoste

Thats what those are?  Chalk it up to hoax then, they roped me.

green69rt

Can anyone guess how this thing may work or is something missing??   I can't see anyway for fuel to get from the bowls into the intake and even then four of  the intake holes are blocked by the plates.   Maybe those replacement metering block have holes I can't see. :shruggy:

Yep, something is missing, the 6 Pack.  ;)

Mytur let the cat out, it's just something boogered together.  I kept wondering for the longest time what it could have been used to test since clearly there was no air going through it but once he said air grabber doors you can see that he's right.

Naa,  I think it'll work just fine once you get the floats adjusted.

A383Wing

you guys are not seeing the picture here...the air goes in through those 2 little holes in the center into where the middle carb mounts..it's basically the first NASCAR re-stricter plate....

Mytur Binsdirti

It's assembled two different ways....             :shruggy:

maxwellwedge

I am guessing it was some kind of test rig to measure some aspect of fuel or air flow or maybe it's a space/time continuum thing.....

Ghoste

Like on "Dude Where's My Car?" or more like one of the Star Trek kind?

Indygenerallee

Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

yeah ,  in the top picture ! that configuration , is high rpm horsepower  , & in  the bottom  picture that  configutation  , is for  low down torque ,  similar to the 413 long ram &  short ram intakes  :yesnod:

so I wonder if you can adjust those "on the fly" while driving??   :slap:

Seriously now.  Do you think this is one of us.  Someone here who posted an ad just to see if it would be picked up and discussed until the cows come home?

daveco

I'd guess the float bowl assemblies were for testing fuel flow through the needle and seat, possibly at various angular orientations.
The rest is just what was handy and could be screwed together.

A383Wing

the seller is "js29u0b"...which translates to what kind of car? Also from Alabama

Ghoste

Ted Stephens isn't one for internet hoaxes.  (thats the first guess I have)

A383Wing

his seller name translates to this:

Description   Interpretation   Code
Model:   Dodge Challenger   J
Price Class:   Special   S
Body Type:   2 door sports hardtop   29
Engine:   440ci V8 4bbl HP (RB motor)   U
Year:   1970

Ghoste

Which is why I guessed Stephens when you said Alabama.

This fella's user name should set off an alarm bell... never seen a JS29 1970 Challenger R/T before... plenty of JS23's and JS27's, but no 29's.

Someone's having a little fun.

Ghoste

More like a lot of fun if it generated this much discussion on this little forum.  Did it make it to Moparts?

maxwellwedge

Hemigeno - you have seen one......JS29 is an RT/SE Challenger....totally legit stuff.....I have one...or 2

yeah the 6bbl manifold might not have anything to do with the, Holley bowls shafts & fuel shut offs probably, just was in the box of parts maybe, my guess is that was used on some sort of fuel system carb fuel regulation or FI possibly, to meter fuel coming & going to a remote tank or something along those lines, the shafts going thru the aluminum blocks on the backside of the bowls "maybe have a barrel valve inline or some sort of thing to regulate fuel" IMHFO the way it's shown, there's no way to get air & fuel in that way it's sett up/assembled, it wouldn't work, someone mixing parts trying to pass something off that it probably isn't... who knows really... probably wants to know about what it is, "he said he didn't really want to sell, so it's priced high", he wants information... just doesn't have all the parts/pieces to accurately display it, it may have some real history, but like I said before who really knows... I'd like to take it apart & see what them aluminum plates & shafts have & what they do... It could have been some type of engineering project... I'm curious that way  :popcrn:

All I'd have had to do is look up JS29 in Galen's little white book to see the truth.  One of these days I'll learn not to shoot from the lip.

There can't be that many such photos - not too many people let me within arm's reach of their E-bodies.  If I'm not mistaken, the only one I've rode in is your yellow one.  You're a brave man, Troy...  :P

Jim/maxwellwedge is right, he did let me drool over a couple of his.  I went back and looked at the photos from that trip though, and the one I thought could have been a RT/SE was instead a JS27  (awesome car it is, too!!).

maxwellwedge

It was the original paint, purple Hemi-Challenger RT/SE.....can't find any pics here at the moment.

Found a little pic of it on Rogers site....remember now?

Someone needs to step up to the plate and put a bid in on this thing, but I know it won't be me....

As cool and rare as that car is, I didn't snap any photos of it.  Come to think of it, there weren't many cars in that shed which weren't rare and cool.  Must have been sensory overload on my part...

It still has over 3 days remaining; but with a $2,000 starting bid, my hope is that NO ONE bids - or that the seller cancels the auction if someone does take the bait.
