Hey gang..

New to the "smart phone" game. I have had this phone for about 9 months now. I do your typical stuff on it; talk, text, surf the web, check my email, yada yada yada..

I was curious, is there a way to "clean" it up? Like on my computer, I can clean the cache with programs like "disk cleanup", "defragmentation", etc... What do you do for smart phones? I see on my Internet browser you can "Clear Browsing History"........ My phone is a Verizon Motorola RAZR Droid........

"Factory Reset". Ok, not really! But that will certainly clean it up. What are you wanting to accomplish? You can clean up temporary files and unused programs (unless they are factory installed). Phones have limited memory/space so they are usually pretty aggressive at removing stuff that isn't necessary. Otherwise, most people just fill them up until it's time for a new one. I have added on a fairly large memory card and pointed most of my apps to use it for storage. That way, if the phone crashes I still have the important data (pictures, texts, lists, etc.).

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

So, they are "self cleaning"............ It is just that working on computers, things are stored in temp storage........ Over time, this storage fills up with useless stuff..... So, I was trying to keep my phone at its high performance......... Didn't want to "bog" it down with memory issues........

Thanks for replying Troy

You can go into the application settings and find the internet stuff and delete all the application data there.  That will do what you want.  It might also kill your bookmarks too, but most people I know don't keep bookmarks on a phone.

Go to settings, then application manager, then find the name of the  browser in the list (don't know which one you have - newer Androids come with Chrome, slightly older ones just say 'internet' or 'browser') then open that up.  Once there, you'll see an 'App info' screen that will have options like 'force stop' 'uninstall' etc.  There will be a either a 'clear data' or 'clear cache' button - or both.  Clear data basically resets everything, while clear cache will wipe all the temp files.

The steps I outlined might be slightly different on your phone - haven't used a Droid in a while, but the general idea should be the same.

Hope that helps.
