Charger sounds like a garbage disposal. Help

My 2008 Charger 6 cyl sounds like a garbage disposal when it gets around freezing. Once it warms up the noise goes away. Any ideas?

Probably your serpentine belt has shrunk, putting added pressure on the idler pulley.  Once it warms up, your belt stretches back to it's original size.  My daily does the same thing.  You might want to check your idler pulley and see if it's loose when the belt is removed.  If it is, replace it.  Replace the belt if it is cracked in the ribs.

a little more info when trying to diagnose noises....
1. Noise on start up only???

2. Noise at idle, or moving???

3. Noise get louder with rpm???

It's noisy at startup until the motor warms up, whether idle or running.

my Dakota does the same thing...only lasts for about 15 minutes...I have new belt, all pulleys good...I just live with it

But still worth checking, I've had a car that just made the noise and I had to live with it too but I've also had the idler that was junk.

Some power steering pumps growl a little bit as well, but I usually suspect the idler first.

Good point, serpentines and pulleys are more likely to whine than make a garbage disposal sound.  There is sufficient fluid in the power steering resevoir right?

I had the same problem on my truck....the rough idle and stalling out problem.  I put a cold air intake on it and seems like it starting running rough after it was on their for about a year or two.  Every time I changed the motor oil I would clean and re oil the intake filter.  I didn't know it at the time but I put too much of that filter oil on it and it started sucking it in the throttle body.  My truck got to where it sounded like a drag car cause it would idle so low and cut out causing the truck to shake back and forth bad.  I took the mass air flow sensor out and cleaned it with carb cleaner but that didn't help.  A few days later I took the throttle body off to see what it looked like.  It was FILTHY!!  It is supposed to be shiney on the inside but it had a thick layer of that oil residue caked on it.  I cleaned all of that off and the truck starting running like it was brand new.  So that's what I would look at on your charger.  I don't know why it causes the engines to run so rough when it gets nasty...I guess it disturbs the air flow or something.  I have learned that I never want another cold air intake on any vehicle that I own.  They are way more trouble than they are worth.  Fuel millage doesn't improve at all and you end up getting oil sucked of through the throttle body.  I couldn't even tell that there was any power gain.  Simply a waste of money.  For what its worth this was on a 2003 Silverado Z71 5.3.  The cold air intakes might be better for a big engine around 500 horses or more, but for a stock 300 horse engine, you are wasting time and money.  I know I got a little off topic, but clean your throttle body.  I just think these cold air intakes are a pain in the ass.
