Troy,

If you have access to a truck dock or forklift somewhere closeby, try looking at

www.freightquote.com

They've shipped a couple of bulky/heavy items for me at a very reasonable cost.  The block would have to be palletized in advance.  IIRC they can dispatch a truck with a TommyLift to load or unload, but it costs more for that service.

Another option if you & the other party can drop off & pick up at their terminal, is Forward Air. (Truck freight company, not air freight)

I've heard good things about them but have never personally used them. I did get a quote once that was substantially lower for a large crate. They have a terminal locator on their website to see if there is one nearby.

Thanks everyone for your input....

But, the motor is on its way to Kansas where I'll be heading Friday or Sat. morning in the wee hours......... It's a decent day's drive where i'm going, load it up either that night, stay at a hotel or stay at a hotel, and depending when I can get access to the motor, pick it up Sat morning as soon as possible then head home.........

It'll only be two days out of my life and some travel money... When it's over, I'll have a hemi at home..  :D

Oooh - banzai road trips, my favorite!  :yesnod:

I'm taking one of those this week myself, to Pensacola & back for retrieval of my daughter plus her luggage & trappings from college.  39 hours away from home, about 26 of those spent in the saddle.  We're both properly motivated for our respective journeys though...

Very smooth, apart from the last 4 hours or so on the way home - Freezing Rain / Sleet / Snow mixture   :scared: :faint:  Snow, I can usually handle.  Ice, I'd prefer to look at through the windows of my house.  Oh, and I get to do the same road trip all over again next weekend  :rotz:

Guess your trip went smoothly too, considering the Pachyderm photos you posted earlier.   :2thumbs:
